Get Me Out of Here: Alternatives to Halloween in IV

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

Halloween in Isla Vista is pandemonium: four crazy nights of barely-there costumes, too many plastic handle pulls, ‘don’t touch the horses!’ and as many people as humanly possible crammed onto the pavement of DP. While this holiday craziness is a favorite tradition amongst students, at some point in your college career you might lose steam. Maybe you need to take a night off or be ready for something out of the ordinary—whether you want to ride, rave, or just get raunchy on a different campus, check out what else is happening during this year’s Hallo -week and -weekend!

Ride

With more than just the excitement of alcohol, drugs, and girls in lingerie/some sort of animal ears to offer, these three theme parks are immaculately decked out in festively frightening décor and have amped up their usual fun to include haunted houses, mazes, shows, and more!

Relocate

You’re a gaucho, so we know that you know how to have a good time, but if it’s your third or fourth year in IV, maybe it’s about time to play the random out-of-towner running rampant this year!

If you’re over 21, every club in Las Vegas will be going insane, scheduling huge DJs like Dada Life and Sebastian Ingrosso. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, so c’est la vie.

You know how when the month of October starts, your long lost friends from high school come wandering back into your call log, coincidentally needing a place to stay in IV for Halloween? Return the favor! Invade another party school, like USC, ASU, or SDSU! If you’re in greek life, see if you can crash at your house on that campus!

The Monster Bash, a huge block party, is happening in downtown San Diego in the famous Gaslamp Quarter, with costume contests, DJs, and a ‘Zombie Crawl’—basically the Walking Dead version of the loop.

Rave

If you’re tired of the IV scene and would rather pay homage to Lewis Carroll’s classic novel or the Mexican holiday, or if you don’t get this joke and would rather just roll on down to rave town, check out these two upcoming EDM festivals!

Remain

If you’re carless, or just too careless to actually leave Santa Barbara, you can check out haunted houses set up seasonally throughout SB or attend the midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in IV Theatre on October 30th!

Kelsey Roshetko left the neon jungle of Las Vegas to attend college in Santa Barbara, where she majors in English with an emphasis in creative writing. She plans on applying to law school after graduation, and pursuing a career as a poet on the side (which probably will not be lucrative in any way whatsoever). She loves all things Sylvia Plath, Neutral Milk Hotel, her mom, and elephants.
