How did this band form?
Julia: Moh (guitarist) and Shane (drummer) were looking for a singer and a bass player to replace the other two guys who had just graduated. Shane had played with Kevin (bass player) and asked Kevin to join the band. Kevin and I are friends from home and he asked me if I wanted to sing, and of course I did!

How would you describe your music style?
We would describe ourselves as funky rock. We have an edgy sound but we love funk and music that makes you want to dance.

Favorite song(s) to perform?
Julia: Unaware by Allen Stone or Valerie by Amy Winehouse.
Shane: I enjoy playing Crazy by Gnarls Barkley because it’s a groovy song and Moh shreds hard.

Biggest source of inspiration?
We each draw from different sources of inspiration. We all love classic rock, blues, and funk.

Music idols?
Julia: For me personally, the recent stuff I’ve been loving is Allen Stone, Justin Timberlake, and Lake Street Drive. Some classics are Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, and Chaka Khan.
Shane: The drummers I idolize the most would probably be Dave Weckl, Buddy Rich, Antonio Sanchez, and Neil Peart, to name a few. Their impeccable technique, groove, and ability to truly create music with the drums are skills that I aspire to acquire and reproduce. I turn to jazz drumming as a unique feel and source of what I play.

What do you hope to achieve from performing together?
Julia: Personally, I just want to have fun! Singing has been a passion of mine since I was little and it’s such a blast to perform for an audience.
Shane: I definitely want to make some great music as well as some amazing memories! I love all the personalities in this band and I want to leave UCSB having fun and playing music with my friends!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Julia: I love to draw and paint. I also love writing music in my spare time.
Shane: In my spare time, I enjoy playing beer die with my housemates and jamming with anybody and everybody.

Hi, Collegiettes! I'm Carmen, a Communication major at University of California, Santa Barbara and one of two Campus Correspondents for UCSB. I would love to one day work in either fashion, food, tech, financial services or philanthropy. My dream is to find a job that somehow combines several of those elements. Until I get there, I'll be munching on copious amounts of Trader Joe's dried mango, jamming out to my man, Frank Sinatra, and focusing on creating intriguing content! If you like my writing, talk to me. ;)
