Bringing Primetime Fashion Into Your Wardrobe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

How many times have you been watching TV and you’ve suddenly found yourself drooling over a great pair of boots or a to-die-for blouse? Many of us take fashion inspiration from the things that surround us. One thing that seems to be perpetually surrounding us is TV. Whether your favorite genre is comedy, drama, or reality, there is tons of fashion inspiration! With the premiere of midseason shows, there are tons of new fashion muses, such as Zoe Hart from Hart of Dixie or Emily Thorne from Revenge.

Maybe your favorite show is GCB (Good Christian Bitches). Well actually, it’s now technically called Good Christian Belles, but bitches sum up the show a lot better. You love your drama to be acceptable because the Bible tells you your actions are in God’s name. You don’t mind messing up your perfectly curled hair and manicure to snoop on your neighbors. This show revolves around the five main characters: Amanda, Carlene, Cricket, Sharon and Heather. It’s basically Amanda versus the rest of the gang in a bitter feud that started in high school. Through all the hair pulling and backstabbing, the cast always looks wonderfully dressed and has drool-worthy outfits. Maybe you’re more of an Amanda—California girl with a laid back style and easy-going attitude. Or maybe you’re a Carlene—a little snooty with a wardrobe full of fashion must-haves. Whatever the case, there are some really easy tips to follow to make it seem as if you just stepped off the set of GCB.

?If your goal is to look like Carlene you need to think “trip to a risque church.” Carlene is always in tight little dress suits with amazing necklines to show off the perfect amount of cleavage. She also always has a pair of to-die-for heels. Never do you see this girl without her red-soled Louboutins. Invest in a great curve hugging dress. Even if you don’t belong to a risque church, you can wear a nice tailored dress to interviews, out on a date, or just for a fun fancy day of shopping on Rodeo Drive. Also don’t forget your sky-high heels. Nothing says powerful woman like six-inch stilettos.

?Maybe six-inch stilettos aren’t necessarily your thing. Perhaps more low-key California cool is your style. Then Amanda Vaughn is bound to be your fashion muse. Amanda always has that just mussed hair and cooly put together outfits. When attempting to dress like Amanda, think: “it’s a warm day outside and I might meet the man of my dreams but I don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard.” With the warmer weather that spring brings, think white capris. Amanda wears either white jeans, white pants, white capris or a white skirt nearly every episode! So why not fill your wardrobe with some white staples too. A really great trick to define a waist when wearing an all white outfit is to add a dark, single colored belt. Amanda also always has the perfect beachy hair. Add a couple teaspoons of salt to a spray bottle of water and spritz the hair. Then scrunch the hair between your fingers for some volume and you’ll be looking like Amanda in no time!

And if the whole drama-between-girlfriends thing isn’t really your pace, and you’re more in tune with steamy make-out scenes, barely there outfits, and “hard working” single mothers, then The Client List is the show for you. Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, this show revolves around a mother of two whose husband walks out on here. In an attempt to keep her family above water, she takes a job at a massage parlor and soon finds out that some of the clients expect extras! To look like Riley, played by Hewitt, you need to think you’re a twelve-year-old stuck in a thirty-year-old’s body. Always wear perfectly teased hair or maybe some pigtails. For Riley, it’s all about sexuality and having voluminous, teased hair is just one way to add some steaminess to any outfit. Riley is also sexy without really knowing it. She’s often seen in jean t-shirts that are tied off into a crop top. If you feel comfortable enough with your tummy showing, then this is a great way to look like your favorite character. If you want something a little more demure think a little bit of lace peeking out somewhere in your outfit. A little cardigan with a hint of lace bra showing is super sexy without going over the line.

Whether you’re a Good Christian Bitch or you have clients knocking on your door, there are tons of ways to express your own fashion choices. Take some cues from the other numerous midseason premieres such as The B in Apartment 23 or Scandal or stick to some of the tips from this article and start a fashion war with your friends to have those men lining up the street for you!
