We’ve all been there: So much homework and studying to do, yet zero motivation. Staying in your room with loud roommates and neighbors is unproductive and going to the crowded library seems like a drag. Sometimes we just need to find a new place to study and re-find our lost motivation. Here is a list of the five best places to study that aren’t the library.
1. The UCEN
The UCEN is a great place to sit and do homework in between classes. It isn’t too loud or distracting and it isn’t eerily quiet either. Plus, if you get hungry you have countless options only a few steps away.
Hours: Monday-Thursday 7:30am-11pm, Friday 7:30am-6pm, Saturday 9am-6pm, Sunday 12pm-11pm
2. Cajé
Cajé is a great alternative to the overcrowded and loud Starbucks a block away. The atmosphere is relaxed and you’ll find yourself surrounded with other like-minded students doing their work. The Wi-Fi is free and you’ll never have to worry about running out of caffeine.
Hours: Monday-Thursday 6:30am-1am, Friday-Saturday 7:30am-11pm, Sunday 8am-12am
3. The Beach
As UCSB students, we are #blessed to live right on the beach. When the weather is nice (as it always is) head down to the beach with some books and get some reading done. The noise of the waves crashing is great background noise and it is guaranteed that you will feel less stressed.
4. Mosher Alumni House
The Mosher Alumni House is the perfect place to study during dead week and finals. There is complimentary coffee, tea, snacks and Wi-Fi for all students. Pro-tip: Get there right at 5 PM as the building can only accommodate 100 students!
Hours: During finals and dead week only 5-11 PM
5. Student Resource Building (SRB)
If you’re looking to stay on campus to study look no further than the SRB. The noise level is minimal and there is a computer lab available. There are 68 seats available on the first and third floors. Remember, the SRB is closed on weekends!
Hours: Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 12:00am, Friday: 8:00am – 6:00pm
Happy Studying Gauchos!
