UCDC is an extension provided through the University of California that guarantees students an internship to gain valuable work experience. Students are required to take a four-credit seminar of their choice and work 32-hours per week through their acquired internship which is equivalent to eight units. The program is a great resource for career-driven students who want to hone tactical skills for the career of their choice. Below are five reasons for why UCDC might be right for you.

1.Incredible Internship Opportunities

The UCDC program provides an abundance of internship opportunities for ALL majors! D.C. is filled with a huge diversity of world-renowned companies all within a 10-mile radius, perfect for career aspiring students to hone valuable real-world experience.

2.Great Location

The UC Washington Center–where students who have joined the program reside–is located right in heart of downtown D.C. The residence is located in one of the nicest areas in D.C., and just about a mile from the White House.

3.Explore D.C.

Because we live in such a great location, most historical monuments, memorials, and the Smithsonian museums are within walking distance. This makes exploring and nighttime runs–just to say “hi” to Abraham Lincoln when his monument is lit up a night–effortless and fun.

4.Build Your Network

It is extremely likely that co-workers, supervisors and the people that you’re surrounded by at your internship and generally all over D.C. have accomplished a great deal during their careers. Simply asking someone for coffee can help open future career opportunities, can steer you in the right direction or can help refer you to the right people.

5.Learn About Yourself

Immersing yourself in a different setting can help you learn a lot about yourself. Immersing yourself in a different work setting can help you more deeply understand your work ethic and career aspirations. Many people don’t get to figure out at least one of those before they reach graduation. Fortunately, UCDC exposes students to great opportunities and can help one grow in versatile ways.
