Here are three reasons why you should run not walk to go see the Black Panther movie. Let your mind be at ease and  let go of all your worries because Wakanda awaits.

The Storyline

it’s a beautiful story about a person finding faith in himself to lead a nation. The story shows African people as complex human beings. Africa has been portrayed many times in film before but no films have portrayed Africa like Black Panther has. Ryan coogler, all of the actors, the set designers, the costume designer, the cinematographer, the director of photography and the makeup artists did a phenomenal job on representing African people’s humanity. The storyline is insightful, heartbreaking and powerful. Go see this movie if want to see Wakanda in all of it glory.

Next, the cinematography

Wakanda is beautiful, the people, the language and the landscape. Seeing people living in lush green landscapes to in mountains covered in snow shows the diverse landscapes of Africa. Often in film Africa is portrayed as a desert with no resources so to see Africa as a lush place filled with valuable resources is refreshing.

The last reason is to see beautiful African people.

This is not to sound shallow but African people are beautiful and to have a movie that shows them as such is rare and yet should be common. This movie displays African people with different hair textures, lengths and colors, the customer designer dressed all the characters in ways that exquisitely shows their humanity and beauty and lastly the African language spoken, isiXhosa, is so well placed throughout the movie that it makes my heart smile. This movie captures the joy, pain and strength of African people. Wakanda Forever ?

Hi, I'm Briahna and I'm a fourth year at UCSB; majoring in anthropology. I'll start with a quote "it's never been true, not anywhere at any time, that the value of a soul, of a human spirit, is dependent on a number on a scale"- Geneen Roth. Sometimes in this big wide world I do feel small but I am reminded by this quote that I am much more than anything that can be measured by a scale, a grade point average or society standards of what a woman should be. My value is dependent by the standards I set for myself.
Hi, Collegiettes! I'm Carmen, a Communication major at University of California, Santa Barbara and one of two Campus Correspondents for UCSB. I would love to one day work in either fashion, food, tech, financial services or philanthropy. My dream is to find a job that somehow combines several of those elements. Until I get there, I'll be munching on copious amounts of Trader Joe's dried mango, jamming out to my man, Frank Sinatra, and focusing on creating intriguing content! If you like my writing, talk to me. ;)
