10 Signs You Might Be a Mermaid

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to escape the boring life of a college student and just live your life under the sea. We’ve all been there at some point, am I right? Here at our little paradise by the beach, this happens way more than you might think. Well, what if I told you you might really be living that reality? Here are ten signs that you might actually be a legitimate mermaid.

1. The sea is constantly calling you

via twitter.com It’s like the ocean is literally calling your name all the time, and you have a hard time ignoring that itch to be near it.

2. You swim (or want to be swimming) 24/7

You need the water as much as it needs you.

3. If you’re not swimming, then you’re probably at the beach.

It feels like you’re home when you feel the waves crashing at your feet.

4. You are obsessed with shells.

You don’t know why, but you have the urge to collect shells all the time, and probably have several shell-like accessories.

5. Your room has ocean décor.

6. You know “The Little Mermaid” by heart.

You probably watched this movie about a hundred times, but probably screamed at Ariel for wanting to give up her life as a mermaid to live on land.

7. You have a tail.

Not like an actual scale tail (as far as you can tell), but you own a mermaid blanket or a swim tail.

8. Going to an aquarium makes you feel some kind of way.

Something about seeing fish that aren’t free just kinda gets you.

9. You know A LOT about the ocean.

10. You’ve been a mermaid for Halloween at least once (or wanted to).

Because what better time to show your true colors without seeming weird?
