We’ve all probably been there before. Having spent what feels like forever letting our hair grow out and reminding people that “Yes I am definitely growing out my bangs this time”, it happens. You see that Kim K is now sporting a bob. And it looks great. And there is an internal conflict that rages within that really makes you wonder, do I need a haircut? Here are three questions with how to deal with this dilemma and hopefully make your life easier!

1. When was the last time you cut your hair?

If it has been over six months and you feel like you really DO have unhlealthy ends on your hair, you should just go for it! You were probably going to get a haircut anyway at this point, and if you see a sleek short style that you like, it’s probably worth doing. If you’re not going to do it now when you’re young and beautiful…when will it happen really?

2. If the amount of effort you put into your hair was put on a Hurricane Scale, are you more of a Hurricane Andrew (catastrophic consequences if you have to jump out of bed and start your day without looking in a mirror) or a Dolly (you barely touch it and are completely cool with leaving it as is!)?

It’s important to be honest with yourself. It’s easy to tell yourself that you will straighten your hair/curl it every day, maybe even carry around a fan so you look like a super model with your hair blowing in the wind. But realistically, we are super busy in college and a few extra minutes of sleep can be more important than time in front of the mirror. So use your past history of hair effort as an indicator of how much time you will spend on it, rather than settting new goals for yourself.

3. Are you being tempted by the “New Year, New Me” attitude? And more importantly, are you okay with that?

So…it’s November, almost December, which means New Years is lurking around the corner. When you are thinking about resolutions and/or trying to make a fresh start, getting a drastic haircut can be a really great tool to get you to where you want to be. Every time you look in the mirror and see the change, you’ll remember all the other things you want to improve on for the new year and be inspired every morning.

These are just some of the questions I would (and did) ask myself when I feel like I am under the influence of the Wait She Got a Haircut and Now I Think I Need One effect. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions about how you feel!
