Terrance J on MTV VMAs Taking Gender Out of the Equation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

In preparation for the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday August 27th, we got to visit the “fabulous” Forum in Inglewood where it will all be going down. We chatted with MTV VMA Pre-Show Host Terrance J, got an exclusive look at the celebrity gift bags, and got to see the seating chart for the big night.

The VMAs have a history of legendary performances from Britney Spears, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera’s kiss to the time Kanye interrupted Taylor’s speech to the time Miley Cyrus shocked the world with her “We Can’t Stop” performance- each year gets crazier and crazier and who knows what might happen this year. The show is already making history by changing the “moon man” award to a “moon person” and removing gender from categories.

We spoke with “Are You The One” host and VMA pre-show host Terrance J about the gender equality, fighting the system, and what he is looking forward to most at the VMAs. Terrance J believes that “This is about gender equality, no guys, no girls- moon person.”

We also got to see where our favorite stars will be sitting during the award show and get a first look at the set.

The stars had closer seats with nicer chairs while the rest of the audience will be in bleachers behind them.

DJ Khaled is getting a front row seat.

Make sure to tune into the red carpet pre-show hosted by Terrance J and the VMAs hosted by Katy Perry on Sunday August 27th on MTV. Also, keep an eye on our snapchat story (@hercampus.com) for all our exclusive interviews.
