St. Patrick’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

As much as I enjoy a good pub-crawl on St. Patrick’s Day, green beer has gotten as old and tired as corned beef and hash. Instead I’ll be celebrating my luck this year with a few festive cocktails. As far as I’m concerned, anything green is game.

Apple Martini
2 oz Sour Apple Schnapps
1 oz Vodka
And a dash of Lemon-Lime Soda
Combine all ingredients into a shaker, shake, and strain into glass.
Easy enough!

Green Tequila
1.5 oz Tequila
¾ oz Melon Liqueur
A squeeze of lime
Strain from a shaker and pour into a glass with ice. Basically a margarita with added festiveness.

Mint Frappe
1 shot Crème de Menthe
Add to a glass with ice cubes and allow the color to penetrate the ice. A green machine!

Irish Gin Twist
1 oz Gin
2 oz Blue Curacao
Combine in a glass with ice and top with a little orange juice.

For underage leprechauns, try the virgin Green Glacier
Blend frozen seedless grapes, 4 oz white grape juice, and some soda water. Pour into a glass and toss a few extra grapes in the mix as impromptu ice cubes!

Her Campus hopes everyone has a safe and “lucky” St. Patrick’s Day. Remember not to go too heavy on the cocktails; you don’t want to overuse the phrase “Kiss Me I’m Irish” as you celebrate. Or do you?

I didn’t have time to take my own pictures! But if you would like some I can have them for you by Friday morning.

Madeline Hunt is a senior at UCLA majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Spanish. Originally from the laidback beach-town of Santa Barbara, the California native finds the fast-paced nature and eccentricity of LA extremely exciting. Once more, she decided to expand her horizons when she studied abroad this past fall in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Madeline wants to pursue a career in the entertainment industry and is considering broadcast journalism and public relations as potential options. On campus, she is currently the Public Relations & Marketing Director for the student- run organization Fashion and Student Trends and an intern at E! News. She served as an entertainment reporter on UCLA’s accredited student newspaper, The Daily Bruin, under the video division and is a current member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. During her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, exercising, going to the beach, shopping (online shopping will be the death of her!), reading Glamour and Cosmo, eating Mexican food and sushi, spending time with her friends, practicing her Spanish, and satisfying her weakness for caffeine with Starbuck’s lattes.
