This week’s Campus Profile is on Jo Lee, a first-year psychology and history student from Fullerton, CA.
1. What led you to decide on double majoring?
I have always had an interest in psychology because I like how the mind works and I want to help people with mental illnesses. People tend to not be as educated on mental illnesses because you can’t see them, so I really want to change that. I love children, education, and history, so it seems like a really great idea for me to teach history at a high school or become a school counselor.
2. What organizations are you involved with on campus?
I used to do Taekwondo when I was younger, so I decided to join Club Taekwondo and I fell in love all over again. I’ve met some amazing people along the way and it’s definitely making me more fit. I am involved in Bruin Partners, where I go to a local middle school every week to mentor younger kids. I am also in the advanced placement program which has a lot of resources for grad school, workshops, tutoring sessions.
3. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would go to Great Britain because it is an older country compared to the United States and as a history nerd, I am interested in every country’s culture and how they’ve changed over the years. I think it would be really awesome to visit because the British basically founded the United States. I also love food, so I’m really excited to try everything.
4. What is one of your favorite memories from your childhood?
I lived in Australia for five years and there was this place called the Dandenong Ranges that was a 45-minute drive from my house. It was a mountainous region that had a lot of locally owned businesses and restaurants that featured British specialties like fish and chips. This area was one of my favorite places to go to and I distinctly remember driving the winding roads with my family.
5. What are you looking forward to the most during your time here at UCLA?
I am looking forward to getting to know a lot of new and incredible people to make memories with. I also want to learn from these people and my classes in order to make myself grow and become a better individual.
