My Top Reads of 2026 So Far (and Why You Should Read Them Too)

My love for reading goes back as far as I can remember. In fact, for most of my life, it was rare for me to not have my nose in a book. But, we all know that as a college student, life can get pretty busy. For the past few years, reading books for fun was replaced with reading textbooks and articles for classes. Don’t get me wrong, they can be interesting as well, but it’s just not the same.

This year, I decided to make a change and have been really trying to prioritize reading books for my own enjoyment again. So far, I’ve read 41 books, and out of those, here are three fun reads that I think you should check out too!

Six of Crows

Six of Crows was actually the first book I read this year, and it was what inspired me to get back into reading. It follows a group of mischievous teenagers in the fictional city of Ketterdam who are hired to pull off a seemingly impossible heist.

It almost feels like you’re reading a fantasy version of Ocean’s 11. The plot is an unpredictable ride that had me on the edge of my seat, but my favorite part was the characters and their relationships with one another. Six of Crows is the perfect mix of action, twists, romance, and found family!

Better Than The Movies

I read Better Than The Movies for the first time years ago and loved it, so I decided to reread it to see if it still holds up (spoiler alert: it does). It tells the story of longtime neighbors and rivals, Wes and Liz. Through a series of events that could only happen in a fictional story, they end up pretending to date. I won’t lie, this book can be slightly cringey at times, but I’m willing to overlook it because it’s just so adorable. If you’re a rom-com lover, I guarantee you will love this book as well!

It’s also currently being adapted into a movie, so you should read it now before the movie is released!

Throne of Glass

Last but not least is Throne of Glass (and the other seven books in the Throne of Glass series). The story begins when Celeana Sardothien, a deadly assassin turned prisoner, gets the chance to fight in a competition for her freedom. But the storyline develops into so much more! Out of everything I’ve read this year, this series has been my favorite by far. I’ve actually put off finishing the last book for two months because I don’t want it to be over. If you like fantasy, you absolutely must give this series a try!

If you do decide to start this series, you might see some discourse over where to read The Assassin’s Blade, which is a prequel. I read it as the third book, and I’m a firm believer everyone else should too. I think it has a bigger emotional impact if you already know the characters a little bit when you read it. Plus, it’s the reading order the author recommends!
