With Halloween right around the corner, I’m sure you’ve been thinking about your costume just as much as I have. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and we won’t have another Halloween fall on a Saturday until 2027, so I hope to make the most of this year. If you’re looking for a fun costume to wear with your significant other, here are my top three picks.
My ultimate favorite couple’s costume is Fantastic Mr. Fox and Felicity Fox, as this costume is cute and niche enough to be interesting without being excessively difficult to pull off. All you need are some fox ears, a tie, and a dress, and you can make this costume your own. The movie has the perfect level of nostalgia to turn heads and elicit “aw”s from onlookers.
My next favorite couple’s costume this year is Sharkboy and Lavagirl — another example of how leaning into nostalgia can create the perfect couple’s costume. This costume might require a little more effort, especially with Lavagirl’s pink hair, but it’s worth it for a costume that is both classic and cute.
My third and final pick is Dexter and his victim. While it is likely to be the most basic of the three options, it leans more toward the scary side and is easy to pull off. With just an apron, some Saran wrap, and fake blood, you and your partner can lean into the spooky side of Halloween. With Dexter: Resurrection coming out on October 30th, the costume remains as relevant as ever.
Although these costumes would all traditionally feature a man and a woman, I particularly enjoy gender-bent versions that defy typical gendered portrayals each Halloween. Whether it is with your partner or best friend, I hope this Halloween is everything you want it to be and that these ideas inspire your best costume yet.
