I tried the $70 viral fruit-shaped pastries in Los Angeles this past month after seeing an influx of taste-test videos taking over my feed and drooling over mousse encased in an ASMR-worthy hard chocolate crunch. I was thrilled to realize that all of the pastry hubs were just a drive away, and I’m happy to report that almost all of the desserts lived up to the hype.
Made popular by Jane, @janemukbangs, on TikTok, these viral fruit-shaped desserts have consistently garnered over a million likes. I myself was not immune to the satisfying crunch of chocolate and the creamy smoothness of the mouse and counted down the days until I could try them. While these pastries undeniably look (and sound) incredible, I was curious whether their flavors would actually justify the price. The desserts range from $9 to $25 each, with locations across West Hollywood, Koreatown and Anaheim.

fruit-shaped dessert details
1. Sweetheart’s Dessert Lounge – Strawberry Mousse
This heart-shaped pastry earned the top spot instantly. The texture was flawless, with an ideal ratio of mousse to cake to chocolate shell. The strawberry mousse had the perfect thickness, and the strawberry flavor tasted incredibly fresh and light. The cake layer was bouncy and soft without being dry, and the chocolate shell cracked beautifully without overpowering the filling. Everything about this dessert felt balanced, intentional and indulgent without being heavy.
2. Aurora Bakery – Mango, “Mango Madness”
This dessert completely surprised me in the best way. I didn’t expect white chocolate and mango to pair so well, but the combination was spot-on. The mango filling tasted fresh, naturally sweet, and perfectly ripe, while the mousse stayed smooth and restrained instead of overpowering the chocolate. Every bite felt cohesive, and the flavor balance made this an instant favorite.
3. Sweetheart’s Dessert Lounge – Mango Mousse
A very close runner-up to Aurora’s mango. The only thing holding it back slightly was the mango center, which was a bit chewier and less sweet. That said, if you prefer a less sugary fruit filling, you might actually enjoy this more than Aurora’s version. It’s still an excellent dessert and easily one of the best mango options on the list.
4. Aurora Bakery – Strawberry, “Fraise d’Amour”
This dessert is basically strawberry shortcake heaven. The cake layer was thick and soft, and the mashed strawberry filling felt more like a classic cake filling than a mousse-heavy dessert. The layers worked beautifully together, with the smooth mousse, squishy cake, and fruit filling creating a comforting, familiar flavor profile that still felt elevated.
5. Tu Cha – Frozen Ice Cream Fruit, “Bing Chillin’ Bites”
These were a game-changer for summer desserts. The texture was exactly what you want from ice cream: creamy, smooth, and refreshing. The berry flavors tasted like freshly ground berries mixed only with cream, and the simplicity really worked in their favor. The banana was especially impressive. It wasn’t overly sweet, was very accurate in its “real banana” flavor and was perfect with the cold ice cream interior and crisp chocolate shell.
6. Aurora Bakery – Orange, “Orangimum”
I’ll admit I’m not the biggest orange-flavored dessert person, so this was always going to rank a bit lower for me. That said, I genuinely enjoyed it. The mousse tasted like light, airy orange and was surprisingly addictive. I ended up eating way more than I expected. If you love orange-flavored desserts, this one absolutely deserves a spot at the top of your list.
7. Tu Cha – Mango, “My Man Go” & Strawberry, “Berry 3”
Unfortunately, these were the biggest disappointments for me, which was surprising given how highly rated they are online. I expected them to blow me away, but the mousse was too thin and foamy, almost frothy, for my taste, making the texture feel flat. Flavor-wise, both the mango and strawberry tasted muted, with the fruit not coming through as strongly as I hoped compared to the other desserts. That said, the packaging and take-home cooler bag were a very nice touch and made the experience feel premium.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall, I spent $70 at Aurora, $35 at Sweetheart’s and almost $60 at Tu Cha to go on the ultimate viral fruit-shaped dessert tour around LA. I will definitely return to Aurora to try their new banana and raspberry chocolate pastries, as well as Sweetheart’s for my all-time favorite strawberry mousse. Are they pricey? Yes. Did I regret it? Absolutely not. Money comes back, crunchy mousse delicacies are forever.
