On Thursday January 18th, we spoke with I Marlene King (Executive Producer of Pretty Little Liars and Famous in Love) and Carter Jenkins (Rainer Devon on Famous in Love) at the first annual Freeform Summit.
Marlene shared some differences between working on the two Freeform shows: Famous in Love is great because it is an escape from reality compared to Pretty Little Liars which forces us to investigate and keep our eyes open.
Marlene also mentioned that Carter’s character will have a “Tom Hanks on Oprah’s couch” moment on an episode this upcoming season and shared her excitement for season 2, which airs on April 4th on Freeform.
Carter also shared that he has a close relation with the Pretty Little Liars and grew up in Los Angeles with both Ashley Benson (Hanna) and Lucy Hale (Aria). When asked if his friendship with the two stars affected his casting on Famous in Love, Carter made it clear that he hid his friendship from Marlene and the rest of the team until he got the role on his own.
He also let it slip that he and Lucy were each other’s first dates!
