Fall Activities In Los Angeles To Kick Off The School Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

The fall quarter has started, well, directly in the middle of fall. This means the weather in LA is perfect; the sun is still shining but now there is a perfect breeze to help you keep cool during the day. And since the quarter has just begun, it is the perfect time to go out and use your free time while you still have it (because we all know that once the quarter gets moving there’s no slowing down). So, here is a list of things to do while fall is settling in and you’re getting into spooky season!

Nights of the Jack

To get into the Halloween mood, head over to the Nights of the Jack for the perfect spooky evening. You’ll have the chance to go through an immersive walking trail exploring lit-up Halloween lights with different Jack O’ Lanterns and designs. The night doesn’t end there; there are also pumpkin carvers on site! These carvers go beyond the basic, everyday pumpkin carving, creating extraordinary designs that you may have never seen before. And if you are still feeling like staying out for the night you can head to the souvenir shop, which has cool little knick knacks, or the Spookeasy for a drink. These are just a few of the things available as the Nights of the Jack is full of fun activities!

Holloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios

If you have never been, I would add Halloween Horror Nights to the top of your list. Now, if you have been wanting to attend but are scared (just like me), I can assure you it will definitely be less scary if you act like you aren’t scared. At Horror Nights you will find exhibits created after your favorite scary movies. And if these exhibits aren’t your vibe you can hang around outside the exhibits where you’ll still be sure to encounter some scary characters. Halloween Horror Nights is the perfect way to delve into the spooky season!

Movie Night

If you are looking for a cozy night in, turn on those fairy lights, grab your favorite snacks and put on your favorite movie (bonus points if it is spooky or scary). To crank up the fall mood, head over to Trader Joe’s and take your selection of pumpkin-themed snacks. A movie night is the perfect way to get your friends together and de-stress after a hectic week.

Los Leones Trailhead

Fall in Los Angeles does not really mean fall, so you can definitely keep participating in summer activities. Around LA we have beautiful hikes, and with the cooling breeze, now is the best time to get outdoors. The Los Liones Trailhead in particular is on the easier side and ends with a beautiful oceanic view. It’s a short distance from campus and a perfect way to kick off the weekend as you might even catch the trees changing color!

Being in LA, there are an abundance of fall activities to keep yourself busy, ranging from indoors to outdoors. This list is just a few of the activities you can participate in to take a step away from the schoolwork. This fall, remember to enjoy yourself in the moment. Don’t forget that there are only so many fall quarters you will have as a UCLA student; make the most of them!
