Everyone may remember Emma Watson as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series, but Emma herself tries to stay away from the spotlight as much as she can. An actress, model, and activist, Watson is continuously on the go but like every other person, also needs time to herself, without the paparazzi and glamour of the media. Although it has been rumored that Watson is currently dating William Mack Night, it has recently come to the attention to the media that she will not talk about her love life publicly nor should we expect her to ever talk about it.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Watson explains “I want to be consistent: I can’t talk about my boyfriend in an interview and then expect people not to take paparazzi pictures of me walking around outside my home. You can’t have it both ways.” It goes to show that even the rich and famous can’t always get what they want. Watson does have a point though: the more details she shares about her personal life, the more compelled the paparazzi will be to get more information out of her. If there is nothing to share, then that is less motivation for the media to pry on Watson, or any celebrity for that matter.
Watson has stated before that she not only values her privacy but also those around her, for they become thrown into the spotlight without even asking for it. “I’ve noticed, in Hollywood, who you’re dating gets tied up into your film promotion and becomes part of the performance and the circus. I would hate anyone that I were with to feel like they were in any way part of a show or an act,” she said. This even includes taking pictures with her fans. Once a picture of Watson is posted, the paparazzi figure out where she is and follow her. Watson explains that this is not safe but will happily discuss any Harry Potter fandom question.
