What Costume Each Zodiac Sign Should Wear This Halloween

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

This may be controversial, but Halloween is my favorite holiday. All of my best childhood memories revolve around things like my dad and I watching scary movies on weekend nights and my mom and abuelita setting up an ofrenda for Día de los Muertos. But my absolute favorite part of Halloween is dressing up, which can also be the most stressful part at times, too!

Halloween in college is like the Met Gala. We’re dressing to impress but most of all, we’re dressing to have fun! And in the midst of trying to figure out what I want to be for Halloween, I thought that it would be fun and helpful to come up with my own personal costume picks according to people’s zodiac signs. I hope you can gain some inspiration as well:

Capricorn

It only makes sense to start off with my own sign, Capricorn. Capricorns are known to be ambitious and hard-working, so, for a fellow Capricorn I would pick the most hard-working Disney princesses: Tiana. Anyone who has seen Disney’s The Princess and the Frog knows that Tiana worked for what she deserved; that was her life’s motto. She didn’t work towards a prince and didn’t plan on becoming a princess. Naveen was just a love she found along the way of pursuing her dreams.

Honorable mentions: David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. David Bowie is one of my favorite Capricorn icons. RIP.

Taurus

Whenever I think of Tauruses, I think of an earth fairy. That might not be an actual thing but I feel like that’s what encompasses a Taurus woman. Physically, they always look like they should be outside, laying in a meadow, enjoying the sun. To me, they are the funniest of the zodiac signs and also the chillest. Think of the color green when you think of a Taurus; aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. It shouldn’t come as a surprise when I say that I would dress up a Taurus as a fairy and/or pixie. It’d be even more fun to dress up as the Pixie Hollow fairies with a group of friends or just Tinkerbell by herself.

Gemini

This is the second funniest zodiac sign for me and I was going to pick a funny costume, but I remembered one of my favorite movie characters is a Gemini (and vegetarian): Elle Woods. This is my favorite costume idea because Elle Woods has many iconic outfits throughout the movie. I love the idea of dressing up as Elle when Vivian invites her to a fake costume party and she shows up as a Playboy bunny. This can be niche as well, because if you wear this to a party, people will think you’re just a PlayBoy bunny, but you’re not! You’re Elle Woods dressed up as a Playboy Bunny.

Pisces

When I think of my darling Pisces, I think dreamy. Pisces to me is a soft lover girl and she is very sacrificing when it comes to love; a true romantic! I would dress up Pisces as a mermaid. It incorporates the element of water with a dreamy mythical creature.

Honorable Mentions: Olivia Rodrigo’s cheerleader costume (she’s also a Pisces)!

Libra

Libra women are always pretty. They’re gorgeous! Honestly, when I think of Libras, the first celebrities that come to mind are Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian. For Libras, I would choose a Greek goddess. Libras are very diplomatic and tend to avoid problems or conflicts. They hold so much power in this trait.

Scorpio

When I was writing down the first things that come to mind when I think of each sign, Scorpios’ was “scary and sexy.” Scorpios are captivating in my opinion. They can be intense, but they’re intriguing in this way. If you’re a Scorpio, I would dress you up as Jennifer from Jennifer’s Body, Patrick Bateman or a hot version of a scary movie character like Jigsaw or Freddy Krueger.

Cancer

I love Cancers. They’ve always been so sweet to me and I feel like they’re so gentle, very similar to Pisces in being lover girls. When I think of a Cancer, I think of Emily from Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride (which was my favorite movie as a kid).

Honorable mention: Lana del Rey (mother).

Leo

Leos are confident and comfortable being the center of attention, which is very admirable. For Leos, I would pick a siren for their Halloween costume because I feel like they have the same level of confidence and ability to persuade anyone into doing anything for them. They just hold that much power.

Sagittarius

When I think about Sagittariuses, I think wild and free-spirited. I would choose the iconic Sagittarius, Britney Spears. I had this idea because I have this perception that Sagittarius people like to travel, and I thought of the “Toxic” music video where she’s dressed as a flight attendant. This one is fun because you could be multiple Britney Spears characters.

Virgo

Virgos have everything together. They’re organized, hard-working, realistic and will get the job done. Their perfectionist tendencies remind me of Hermione from Harry Potter. Hermione is smart, driven, passionate and loyal to her friends, just like Virgos.

Honorable mentions: Queen Bee, Beyoncé.

Aquarius

My favorite sign because my best friend is an Aquarius. This sign to me is different in the best way ever. Aquariuses are outgoing and unique. The first thing that comes to mind for Aquarius is something disco-themed like a disco doll from the 70s. The color, music and dance associated with the 70s reminds me of the Aquarius personality: the best party you’ve ever been to.

Aries

Fire is all I think about when I think of Aries, perhaps the most passionate of the signs. For Aries, I would dress them up as a phoenix since they’re determined and fueled by their passions. I also think of red when I think of Aries and feel like red always compliments them.

I hope that my ideas served as some inspo for anyone who might be having trouble choosing a costume (or you just enjoyed my very generalized opinions of each zodiac sign). Regardless of costumes, Halloween is about having fun, so please do!
