Coachella Weekend 1 Surpassed Weekend 2: Here’s What Happened

It’s pretty well known that to be first is to be the best. However, that is not the case when it comes to Coachella.

For 2 weekends in April, Coachella was all everyone was talking about. Even if you weren’t able to be there personally, performances were being watched (and rewatched) from the homes of many, including me.

Now, if you saw performances from both shows, then you know that there were some different vibes from Weekend 1 compared to Weekend 2. I know many people were upset about going to the first week rather than the second, but after reading this article, would you also be upset?

Before going over the details, I want to start off by saying that various people claimed that there were less “influencers” roaming around on Weekend 2. Apparently, this is one of those noticeable factors that goes into the different vibes between the two. Obviously though, that isn’t the only reason.

For example, after their first performances, artists get a feel of the crowd and of their set. They aren’t as nervous to perform as they were the first time, so the pressure lifts, allowing them to take more creative liberty during Weekend 2.

On Day 1 of Weekend 2, Sabrina took the stage to perform her set again. However, this time instead of Susan Sarandon playing older Sabrina and delivering her monologue, it was Geena Davis! Talk about a Thelma and Louise (1991) reunion (if you know you know)! This was not the only new special appearance of the night. Terry Crews made a cameo as the “electrician” instead of Will Ferrell, who made an appearance on Weekend 1.

To end the night, Sabrina had one more surprise up her sleeve. After the musical number “Juno,” Madonna came out and performed various hits such as “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer” alongside Sabrina. Easily one of the best performances of the festival.

On Day 2 of Weekend 2, Addison Rae, who had previously had no special guest during Weekendd 1, brought out Olivia Rodrigo to sing her new single, “drop dead.” This collab really gave me FOMO like never before – what do you mean Olivia performed “drop dead” for the first time and I wasn’t there? Weekend 1, are you mad yet?

Well, that’s not all for Day 2. Justin Bieber’s set was definitely one for the books. He brought out Sexyy Red as well as SZA to perform her hit song “Snooze.” He also brought Billie Eilish on stage as the “One Less Lonely Girl.” All this did not happen during Weekend 1, by the way.

Justin also got up close and personal with the fans that were near the barricade, which he did not do during Weekend 1. If you are a Justin Bieber fan who was present Weekend 1 but not for Weekend 2, I feel for you because these are huge differences. Even Justin’s vibe was entirely different for Weekend 2.

Day 3 of Week 2 was the final day of Coachella, and our first Latin artist to headline the festival took over the stage one last time! Karol G’s set was one of the best of both weekends. For Weekend 1, she brought out the Reggaeton icon, Wisin. She also sang her duet “MAMIII” with Becky G, as well as a new song, “Despues de Ti” with Cigarettes After Sex frontman, Greg Gonzalez.

For Weekend 2, she also brought out J Balvin and Peso Pluma, who are famous Latin singers that are internationally known. At the end of her set, Karol G announced that she is going on tour (and you know it’s about to be hell to get those tickets after her performances at Coachella).

I’m sure I’ve missed some other special appearances or events surrounding Weekend 2, but taking into account everything that I’ve mentioned above, I think we can all agree that Weekend 2 was way better than Weekend 1.

Keep this in mind when purchasing tickets for Coachella 2027, which has already been announced!
