Campus Cutie: Dennis Yuan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

1. Tell us the some of the basics of the life of Dennis! Where are you from, do you have pets, any weird fetishes that we should know about?

The watered down biography of me is that I am a laid back SoCal kid from a rather conservative and sheltered small suburban town in the San Gabriel Valley about 40 miles from UCLA. I am an only child and put family before all. I have a dog and a cat, both of which I am unfortunately allergic to. Overall, I am a nerd at heart, gym rat, self conscious only about my midsection, and always hungry. My goal in life is have people say Doctor/Professor before saying my name and do some great things.

2. Summer is only (“only”…) four months away. What is your dream vacation spot and why?

Recently, I have had desires to visit Singapore. I have always wanted to visit anywhere with great architecture in Europe; the dream vacation would be spending a few months backpacking through Europe and visiting the quaint spots rather than the big tourist attractions. And anywhere with Infinity Pools.

3. If your life had a theme song which song would it be?

Stop This Train by John Mayer because I am uncommonly nostalgic and always painfully aware of how fast time is passing by.

4. Were you team Broncos, Seahawks or Bruno Mars for the superbowl?

I am as close to a Broncos fan without being one because Peyton Manning is in my top 3 favorite athletes of all time.

That game is like starting a quarter losing the first 2 homework assignments for all your classes and being late to your first midterms and being in the bottom 10% of all your classes after getting a 3.9 your last quarter. You tell yourself that it is not a big deal since it is still early and you can recover if you just do well enough on the next few weeks. But some bad starts are just irrecoverable and you just free fall the rest of the quarter. Basically, that’s what the game felt like. Like my Fall 2013 quarter.

5. Last question! What is your favorite spot to be in campus? (Which is a toughie since our campus is gorgeous!)

My least favorite spot is anywhere near Boelter and MS. For studying, I like to be near the top floors in Young Library where it is relatively quiet and uncrowded. For general sunbathing I really appreciate the hilly grassy hills looking down on Wilson Plaza on a good weather day.
