“Avengers: Endgame” And “Game of Thrones” Lead Nominations For The 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

With Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones making waves in pop culture this year, 2019 has been an extremely important year for both film and television. Avengers: Endgame has dominated the North American box office for three consecutive weekends, already racking up $2.48 billion, making it the second-biggest film globally. The eighth and final season of the beloved show, Game of Thrones is also coming to an end, and fans are highly anticipating the series finale. These two fictional blockbusters lead the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards nominations!

The Oscar-nominated non-fiction film RBG, featuring real-life hero, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, also leads the list of nominations. MTV has continued to provide gender-neutral categories, nominating the best performances no matter the screen, genre or gender. And this year’s show will feature new categories: “Reality Royalty,” “Most Meme-able Moment” and “Best Real-Life Hero.”  Zachary Levi will be hosting the awards show this year, from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. He has also earned nominations in the “Best Hero” and “Best Comedic Performance” categories for his role as Billy Batson/Shazam in Shazam!
