A new year means new television, and with 2022 in full swing, television networks have been promoting hundreds of new series to be introduced this year. 2022 seems to be a highlight year for television with the continuation of several popular shows and the increasing expansion of several large productions such as Marvel and Star Wars. While there are hundreds of different series from a variety of different genres set to hit your screens this year, here are 5 shows to look out for in 2022:

House of the Dragon

After a finale that saw the conclusion of 8 seasons of Game of Thrones, HBO is looking to capitalize upon their success with the show by organizing a prequel show: House of the Dragon. GOT fans will be thrilled to know this series is based on author George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a history of House Targaryen and the first ten Targaryen kings of Westeros. The first season of the show will contain ten episodes based on the Dance of Dragons, the Targaryen Civil War that saw brother fight sister for the throne of the land. The show is considered one of the most highly anticipated shows in 2022, so be sure to look out for the series when it streams live on HBO sometime soon this year!

The Kardashians

Fans of the show know the Keeping up with the Kardashians recently finished their final season of the show after leaving the E! network. Recently, they signed a deal with Disney for a brand new reality show that would continue similarly to their old reality show. Hulu recently released a small preview clip of all 5 Kardashian sisters revealing the new show will premiere sometime in 2022. Ever since the fans have been in a frenzy to know what new family drama will be playing out on screen. While a release date seems a little further on in the year, be sure to keep an eye out for this prominent family and their new reality tv show exclusively on Disney and Hulu.

OBI-WAN Kenobi

Back in 2020, Disney released a 5-year plan for the Star Wars universe and the series and movies that would be up and coming. One of the most popular shows announced was the new series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which follows Obi-Wan and his life on the planet Tatooine ten years after his padawan, Anakin Skywalker, turned to the dark side. Fans were excited to see Ewan McGregor return to play the role of Obi-Wan and Hayden Christensen returning to play Darth Vader. The show promises to be full of excitement and mystery surrounding the aftermath of events following Revenge of the Sith. There have been many theories as to who else will appear in the show, such as a young Luke Skywalker or other beloved characters. The series promises to fulfill Star Wars fans’ hopes and dreams.

Monarch

Country music fans and fans of the television show Nashville will be sure to look forward to this upcoming country music drama series Monarch. The show will follow the rise of the Roman family, known as the first family of country music in this fictional world of country music drama. The show focuses on the lie that brought the family to success and fame, hinting that should anyone find out about their secrets the family foundation would crumble and fall. This country series will bring plenty of drama alongside family rivalries and relationship problems as well as plenty of country music songs and sure-to-be hit singles. Due to COVID-19, the show’s release date has been delayed to Fall 2022.

Bridgerton: Season 2

Bridgerton’s first season released onto Netflix took the entertainment world by storm, racking up millions of viewers and becoming one of the biggest period dramas on television. Due to the success, the show has released a release date for season two: March 25, 2022. The show is based on the book series by Julia Quinn, each of which follows the life of each Bridgerton child. While season one followed Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter, season two will focus on Anthony Bridgerton, the family’s eldest son. Sources reveal that Anthony will follow a forbidden romance with his fiance’s sister, so the show is set to follow romantic affairs and relationship drama.

With the release of so many different movies and television series this year, be sure to have your eyes out for any one of these five promising intrigue, romance and action. While all the new television series this year look extremely promising, especially with productions going back to pre-COVID days, 2022 promises to be a titular year for the entertainment industry.
