5 Spooky But Not Too Spooky Movies To Get You Into The Halloween Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

This one goes out to all the people that want in on the Halloween movie fun, but aren’t a fan of the creepy, crawly stuff. I got you. Next time your friends and family suggest a horrifying Halloween movie, use this as your go-to list for a lighthearted, holiday movie that won’t have you be nervously chomping on your popcorn.

The Haunted Mansion

Missing Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride? Me too.

Two realtors bring their kids to a property only to find that the house is haunted. What happens next is crazy, but don’t worry, it’s not nightmare-level scary.

Hocus Pocus

Siblings Max and Dani, and friend, Allison are on the hunt to stop three awakened witches from becoming immortal. This movie is one of my favorites, and I look forward to watching it every year.

Halloweentown

You cannot go wrong with the Disney Channel Orginal Halloweentown series.

Marnie discovers that she comes from a family of witches. As a witch herself, she helps her witch grandmother stop the evil forces that are trying to invade Halloweentown. This is the first in a trilogy, so be sure to watch them all!

Twitches & Twitches Too

I repeat: you cannot go wrong with a Disney Channel Original Movie. Especially when it’s with THE best TV, twin sister duo.

Based on the Twitches book series, the movie follows two teen witches to use their powers to save their kingdom and birth mother from evilness.

Ghostbusters

As Ray Parker Jr. once posed, “Who you gonna call?”

Scientists turned “Ghostbusters” are on a mission to save New York City from darkness. Can they do it?

I mean, don’t you just want to have a fun-spirited laugh and not a jump-out-of-your-seat movie sometimes? I support that. Hope this list helps as you celebrate this spooky season with a holiday movie paired with a big bowl of Halloween candy!
