5 Must-Do Fall Activities For This Halloween Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

It’s Halloween season, which means time to enjoy candy, scary movies and pumpkin carving. Whether you have a sweet tooth or want to express your creativity through Halloween decorating, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of a few activities to do this Halloween season to make your month a little more fun.

1. Carve a Pumpkin

This is a very traditional and simple activity to do around October. All you need is a pumpkin, a stencil you can easily find online and carving tools. Markets will usually have the carving tools near the pumpkins, so don’t worry about finding that. If you have a hard time deciding what to carve, here are a few ideas.

2. Make Caramel Apples

A delicious way to treat yourself on Halloween after making it through another month is to make caramel apples. All you need is listed below:

  • As many apples as you want (although this recipe is best for 6 apples)

  • 1 (14 ounce) package of individually wrapped caramels

  • 2 tablespoons of milk

  • Craft sticks

  • Baking sheet

  • Butter

Next follow these steps:

  • Remove the stem from each apple and press a craft stick into the top. Butter a baking sheet.

  • Place caramels and milk in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave 2 minutes, stirring once. Allow to cool briefly.

  • Roll each apple quickly in caramel sauce until well coated. Place on prepared sheet to set

3. Attend a Hayride

Are you really celebrating Halloween if you haven’t gotten spooked a little bit? If you’re not a fan of Halloween Horror Nights or Fright Fest at Six Flags, a Hayride might be more within your comfort zone. One of the most famous Hayrides is the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride that takes you into the woods where clowns are “waiting to unleash their bag of tricks on passersby.” The price for the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is $30.99, but if you are enticed into wanting to do all the other activities available to visitors, the regular admission ticket is $39.99. 4. Bake Something Pumpkin Flavored

Most of us don’t have ovens in our dorms. However, if you find yourself trying to find something to do with your friends or family at your apartment or house, baking is always a fun idea. The smell of pastries being made overwhelms your home and makes a nice treat after the hard work of baking. You have multiple options like: Dulce de Leche Pumpkin Coconut Cupcakes with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting, Pumpkin Pie with Walnut Crust, or maybe even Pumpkin Pull-Apart Loaf. The nice thing about being able to try this around Halloween season is that it also works for Thanksgiving season. 5. Throw a Scary Movie Marathon

If you’re not someone who enjoys going out on Halloween, this is a fun idea to plan with your friends. All you need is a list of your favorite spooky movies! They don’t even need to be Halloween themed. Some great options of what to watch are Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas or even the Scream series. If you want to make it even more of a party, think about getting a couple bags of candy or popcorn to eat while watching the movies.
