Why You Should Fall in Love With Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

When I reflect back on my childhood I wish adults instilled in children how important self love is. I believe it is more important than anything else. Successful people are confident and sure of themselves. If you don’t believe me just remember Kim Kardashian’s selfie book. However, self love goes beyond the surface. If you are not the biggest fan of yourself you will never feel satisfied with your life. Not to mention you’re going to get let down by a lot of people. Most frequently, you will let yourself down. It’s easy to fall down a slippery slope and never feel like you’re enough. It is not an overnight process, and I’m still working on it. The stronger I’ve become mentally the less I’ve allowed other people to affect my self-esteem. You’re never going to be anyone else, so might as well accept who you are and embrace it.

Here are three ways your life will improve when you fall in love with yourself.

You’re More Attractive

If you haven’t mastered contouring, give self confidence a try. It can honestly make a huge difference. When you are content with who you are the people around you will take notice. You’ll have healthier relationships because you’ll look at a relationship as a partnership. Your boyfriend/girlfriend is not someone you can’t breathe without, because you’re secure about who you are on your own. Not desperate = super hot.

You’ll Find Your Purpose

Loving yourself is a apart of the journey of figuring out who you are. You aren’t here just to pay bills and die. It’s not cool to dislike everything, and it’s not enjoyable either. More confidence comes with more chances of discovery to see where your interests lie. Put yourself out there and find your niche. Also, back to the attractive thing- having a passion for something other than Netflix is more interesting and thus more attractive. It doesn’t matter if it’s hiking or comic book collecting, just have some substance.

You’re Happier

Liking who you are does not automatically make you a selfish narcissistic person. Constant self-criticism takes away the benefits of self reflection, because you’re never making progress in your mind. Celebrate your success and feel shameless about it. Choose your own happiness over the happiness of others. No one is going to look out for you as much as you will, so be your own best friend. You’re not putting pressure on anyone else for your happiness because you’re creating it yourself.

Loving yourself definitely gets a 10/10 rating from me, I would recommend it to everyone.
