WARNING: UCF INVADED – DAYGLOW 2011

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

April 14th 2009 – the day the UCF Arena was invaded by DayGlow Escape Reality Tour, the world’s largest paint party. The Arena was filled to the brim with eager young adults dressed head to toe in all white that were ready to be covered in neon paint. This all out extravaganza is by no means for the timid.

The night began at 9pm, but the first “paint blast” was at 11. Until then the walls were sounding with deep vibrations of bass and rhythm kicking into your soul. The clock on the jumbotron counts down the last minute, regressing to the second where everything is taken to the next level, you get lost in the music, and suddenly that white shirt of yours is no longer white but doused in crazy paint that seems to carry the music through it.

Laidback Luke was the special guest DJ that took this party to the extreme. He’s been ranked as one of the world’s top 20 DJ’s. The hype he brought to the building was unmatchable. Also in attendance was David Solano, another brilliant artist. There was also a performance by “The Devil from Acapulco” that wowed. The stage was complete with huge monitors, aerial acrobats, stilt walkers, and giant robots covered in LED lights.

During this extreme display of some of the best house music to date, the hosts were promoting the summer music festival called “Electric Daisy Carnival.” This is a 2-day music carnival here in Orlando May 27th and 28th. It has been called “the Woodstock of our generation.” It’s the largest electronic music festival outside of Europe. In 2010 it was reported having over 200,000 attendees in Los Angeles. To find out more info about this one of a kind festivity you can visit their website at http://www.electricdaisycarnival.com/

We UCF students were lucky enough to have DayGlow hosted here in our very own arena. It’s something I’ll never forget, and for those of you out there that didn’t make it, make sure you check it out in the fall. With the Electric Daisy Carnival in our own backyard, we have so many opportunities to immerse ourselves in this incredible culture of music.
