As we all know, (or for those who didn’t, now is your chance to learn) Volunteer UCF is dedicated to promoting community service throughout our campus, as well as in local areas. They have been providing a variety of programs, committees, events, and ongoing projects for all students here to get involved with. Their recent projects have included the Habitat for Humanity: Shack-a-Thon, Lake Claire cleanups, as well as multiple visits to the Ronald McDonald House.

VUCF has planned an event coming up on April 6th that is very easy to help with, and we are aimed to get everyone involved. All you need is a bar of soap! That bar of soap is your admission ticket, and for that pizza is provided!

Beginning only 3 years ago in Downtown Orlando, Clean the World has already saved the lives of thousands of children and families in impoverished countries.  Their mission is to collect and recycle soap, shampoo, conditioner, and other hygiene products discarded by the hospitality industry everyday.  Through recycling all of these products, they are able to save millions of lives from hygiene-related illnesses everyday.

Shelby Olson is the VUCF Health Coordinator and has put together an amazing event that is bound to be successful. She first worked with Clean the World in October 2011 through Knights Give Back. She keeps this organization close to her heart and has continued to provide UCF volunteers with opportunities to show their support for this cause.

On April 6th in Sand Key, room 220 of the Student Union, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., a guest speaker from Clean the World will be coming to give information about the organization, as well as how to get involved with this Hygiene Revolution! Even if you are unable to stay for the whole event, just stop by with that bar of soap.

Living in Orlando, we all know how big of an impact the hospitality industry really has. VUCF and Clean the World are in hopes of making an even bigger impact on the lives of those families in less-privileged countries by giving them that luxury of a soapy shower.

Getting involved with this event is super easy and everyone is encouraged to participate! The Student Union is the heart of campus and we all walk through it multiple times a day, so just make a stop by room 220 with a bar of soap and continue on with your day. It’s as simple as that, and you will be able to know you had an impact on such an amazing cause. Oh, and did I mention there will be pizza?!

Please come and be a part of changing the lives of millions of people!
