The Top 3 Scariest Short Films From Hulu’s Huluween Film Fest

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Spooky season is upon us, and Hulu is back with its annual Huluween special. For those who don’t know, every October Hulu creates an awesome event called Huluween, in which Hulu members can watch all of the horror movies that their heart desires. During Huluween, Hulu has a special film fest where they upload their own independent short horror films — this year, Hulu came out with seven. Here are the top three scariest Huluween short films from this year (beware of spoilers)!

Flagged

Flagged will keep you on the edge of your seat! This film revolves around a young woman who takes a new position at a major social media company. In her new job, the woman works as a moderator. As a moderator, she must watch at least 15 seconds of each video that pops up on her computer. If the video seems too inappropriate to appear online, she deletes it. Seems simple enough, right? Well, everything seems fine, until the woman quickly realizes that she may have forgotten to read the fine print on the job description. Now, I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say this: be careful what you post on the Internet because you never know who will see it.

Hidden Mother

For scaredy cats like myself, this one will give you the creeps. The main character of this short film is a recently widowed mother. She is gifted an antique photo of a baby from the Victorian era by one of her close friends. The friend explains how, in the Victorian era, there was a lengthy photo process in which mothers had to hold their babies. For the mother to not be seen in the photo, they would wear all black to hide, creating a “hidden mother” effect. After being gifted the photo, the main character leaves it on her shelf, giving it no extra thought. Little does she know, the picture contains a sinister spirit within its frame.

The Dunes

This short film is centered around a young couple who are on a romantic date at the beach. Everything seems to be going amazing until the girlfriend encounters a mysterious seaside stranger — an old woman who has the look of death in her eyes. Want to know what happens next? You should go watch it!

You might be thinking, “I wish I could watch these, but I don’t have a Hulu account!” Thankfully, Hulu has uploaded all 7 of their short horror films on YouTube. Now, what are you waiting for? Turn off the lights, go get some popcorn and start your Huluween Film Fest marathon! Oh, and have a happy Halloween!
