The best thing about UCF that most students don’t know about or take advantage of is the amenities and services that the school has to offer. These services are only here to help students and guide students in the right direction. The University of Central Florida has a wonderful library, state of the art wellness center and different academic services around campus that are completely free! College students are usually embarrassed when asking for help, including myself, but we shouldn’t be. While we are in college and have these resources offered to us, we should take full advantage of them while we are still here. The next time you need help or need a check up, just check out one of these resourceful centers on campus.

The Writing Center: Are you not the best writer and are having trouble writing that 10-page paper for history? Then you need to go to the writing center. Everyone at the writing center will sit down with you and pretty much rewrite your paper to make it flow and make it clear of grammar mistakes. They help you out at the same time to let you realize what you did wrong and how you correct yourself. Some teachers even offer extra credit for going. Go to the writing center for your next easy ‘A’ in class.

The Counseling Center: The counseling center offers many great types, of–you guessed it–counseling services. If you are feeling homesick or you simply want someone to listen to what you have to say, there is someone here who is willing to hear your story. This place is great if you are having relationship issues. One of the coolest things is that they offer Couples Counseling. This doesn’t necessarily mean a boyfriend or girlfriend; it could just be your roommate or best friend. Freshman, if you are feeling homesick and have no time to actually go home, there is a program that will help you fight being homesick.

SARC: What is SARC? It is the Student Academic Resource Center. When you are too shy or too scared to ask your professor for help in a specific subject, all you have to do is contact SARC. They will help you out in any subject one-on-one or in a group setting. The majority of the time there is probably someone out there who is having a hard time on the same subject as well. They offer tutoring, supplemental instruction (SI), online peer-assisted learning, peer mentoring and learning skills consultations. You now have no excuse for not understanding anything!

Health Services: Forget the doctors just go to the health center. They have many different events like alcohol screenings, how to quit smoking and how to get better sleep. Safety comes first, and for this reason, the health service center offers UCF students affordable birth control and STD screenings. Did you know that there is a dental center in health services? Well, there is. Some of these services do come with a price, but it is nice to know that you can have a brighter smile just by entering a building that is right on your campus.
