Pride and Prejudice & Zombies ( Spoiler: Its All You Ever Wanted)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Mix together big, puffy dresses, British people throwing shade in well-formed paragraphs, fancy dance parties all with the gore and horror of a zombie apocalypse and it sounds just utterly ridiculous, right?

Well it is, but ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ pulled it off in the best way you could ever possibly imagine. As a Jane Austen and horror movie fan, I had to check this film out. I got to see it at an early screening and it was everything!

1) First and foremost, it has a great cast.

Doctor Who’s Matt Smith, Downton Abbey’s Lily James, Lena Headey from Game of Thrones . . . you know they can never disappoint you.

2) Elizabeth is not only keeping to her original MO of slaying men’s oversized egos left and right, she is also slaying some zombies.

Yes, its quite possible to kill zombies without getting your pretty white gloves dirty.

3) Douglas Booth.

He’s in the movie looking fancy AF, what else do you want??

4) All that fiery, intelligent convo we know and love from the original Pride and Prejudice is still there.

Reminding us of when long ago Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Bennett taught us the power of a properly worded sentence.

5) Also, all the subtle, tension-filled stares and stolen ‘I hate/love you’ glances are still noticable among the zombie attacks and the plague.

I mean, death and destruction aside, how else did you expect for Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy to fall in love?

6) This scene is in the actual movie.

Thank you, whoever made Jack Huston wear that coat.

7) Mr. Darcy is played by Sam Riley. It’s a dark, zombie-slayer twist on Jane Austen’s Darcy but still keeps the sarcastic charm and biting wit fans know and love.

8) Cersi is Lady Catherine. Get very Much excited.

The rude, old lady we know Catherine Debourgh to be, is now re-imagined into our worse nightmare.

9) The fashion.

There is actually going to be a new lingerie line at Hot Topic inspired by the film. Look it up!

But, I don’t know how I feel about poofy, frilly panties coming back in style though. . .

10) It’s beautiful how the romance and splendor is preserved even in their doomed, apocalyptic world.

Proof that love and romance won’t die, even in a reality where zombies roam free and the world is ending in blood and gore. Romance will just have to become a little more functional.

Gather and/or drag your friends to see PPZ this weekend, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll thank me later.
