You’re not alone if you’ve thought, “there are not enough podcasts,” although it seems everyone is creating their own during quarantine. With so much new content and many different platforms to listen to, it can be overwhelming to choose something as simple as a podcast. I’d only heard about podcasts from people who listened to Joe Rogan or murder mystery podcasts, which didn’t catch my attention. For the longest time, I thought podcasts were boring and underwhelming, until I listened to the ones below. They can be found on Spotify as well as other podcast apps!

“SmartLess”

Comedians and actors Jason Bateman (Ozark), Sean Hayes (Will and Grace) and Will Arnett (Arrested Development) unveil secret guests to one another each episode. Their celebrity guests include Billie Eilish, Kamala Harris, Robert Downey Jr. and more. I love this podcast because of how well the conversations flow and how quick the three hosts are to crack jokes while maintaining an interesting conversation. There’s a guest for everyone on this podcast, and it definitely suits the comedy genre.

“Skinny Dipping”

Tatiana Ringsby and Kela Rose are best friends from Hawaii who co-host this podcast together, stripping down and being their most honest selves (hence Skinny Dipping). I listen to this podcast because they’re young women around my age who are going through similar struggles as many other women, giving great advice and sharing their life experiences in each episode. They talk about attracting the changes you want in life, spiritual journeys, body image and more! The episodes aren’t too long and it feels like a good therapy session when the episode is done.

“Zane and Heath: Unfiltered”

I’ve never laughed harder from listening to something as I have with this podcast. Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar cohost this podcast and are unapologetically themselves hosting alongside Matt King and Mariah Amato (YouTube). They hold nothing back when telling life stories about their time spent living in Florida and Los Angeles, as well as chatting with the occasional guest such as James Charles. I look forward to a new episode of this podcast every week because it feels like I’m listening to a good conversation with friends, and it’s truly hilarious.

“Good For You”

Comedian Whitney Cummings invites guests to her home to talk about literally anything. Her guests include celebrity friends, doctors and experts. There’s a guest for everyone’s taste, notable ones being Adam Devine, Trixie Mattel, Ke$ha and so many more. I’ll warn you that these podcast episodes range anywhere from one to four hours in length, so they take a while to listen to. Whitney is a very energetic host who tends to interrupt her guests, but it makes the conversations interesting.

“Love Yourself Healthy”

Melanie Lillis is an eating psychology coach and nutritional therapist who talks about dealing with eating disorders, body image and mental health. Although she hasn’t uploaded a new episode recently, there are 49 to choose from. I’ve heard people talk about health podcasts in the past and I couldn’t get into them, simply because I couldn’t form a connection. This podcast has helped me immensely in my struggles with eating disorders and body image. I recommend going for a walk and listening to this podcast — Melanie gives purposeful, constructive advice on dealing with mental health issues, and encourages listeners by taking everything one step at a time.

I was never one to listen to podcasts, but now I’m always looking for new ones to listen to. Hopefully, you’ll take some time to take a look at these five — you certainly won’t regret it!
