Ode To All The Underrated Boyfriends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

This letter goes out to all the underrated boyfriends. The boys that don’t get enough credit for all the effort they put forth to keep us girls happy.  What a cliché article to write around this time of year.  I already know.  But I am a firm believer in allowing myself to enjoy all the simple pleasures of life which is why, with Valentine’s Day nearing, we, the fore mentioned happy girls, just want to take some time, embrace the cliché and say thanks for being great.

Thank you for always making me feel like I’m the only person that matters in the world when I’m with you.  Something as simple as putting your phone away and making eye contact goes along way with us. You’d be surprised.

Thank you for giving me distance and making me feel like I can be independent and handle things on my own, but, also, for never being too far behind in case I do give in on my pride and need your help. Thank you for dropping whatever you are doing to be there for me at the drop of a hat. Our lives can get pretty hectic but knowing you are always there for me to fall back on is the best safety net I could ever ask for.

Thank you for putting me first.  Sometimes it’s hard to put my own self first so just know that to have someone that cares so deeply about if I am doing okay and if I has a good day is the most tender idea and I thank you for that. .

Thank you for making me laugh endlessly.  You are my other half.  I love your brain for making up such ridiculous ways in which to bring a smile to my face.  You know exactly how to make me crack even when I’m mad at you.  Especially when I’m mad at you.

Also, thank you for putting up with me when I’m angry for no reason, or moody, or just flat out being a bitch. Girls can be crazy.  I am a prime example.  Why boys put up with us is beyond me.  All I know is someone as great as you definitely does not have to put up with me and my emotional instability.  So thanks for not only sticking around but helping me through it even when the extent of my anger is directed at you.

I love the face you make in the moments when we are just goofing off.  When you give me that look and you don’t even have to say it out loud, I know from the way your eyes light up that you love me.  I had never seen that face until I met you.  It’s a rare one to find but I would 100% recommend it to anyone.

I love that I can be my whole complete self around you and you can be your whole complete self around me.  I have never been so comfortable around someone, that wasn’t blood related, in my life.

Thank you for giving me a reality check whenever necessary.  I know sometimes I can get needy and clingy and, most of all, bat shit crazy so that’s why I value your honesty in situations that could be sensitive to my ears at the time.

Thanks for taking disgusting couple photos and endless selfies with me.  Thank you for always asking about my day and opening doors for me and fixing my loose tank top straps.  Thanks for watching Frozen with me a billion times and going to McDonald’s to get milkshakes and always listening to my music in the car.  I hope my family can make you feel as comfortable in our house as your family has made me in theirs.

I know I should tell you all the time and it shouldn’t take a single day out of a year to tell you how much I appreciate you so that’s why this article is dedicated to you.

Here’s to the underrated boyfriends. Thanks for being great.
