There may be some spooky happenings on Halloween, but there’s nothing spooky about the Nutella Breakfast Tour truck parking near the Student Union to give out free samples of the classic chocolatey hazelnut spread! From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can catch a free snack and “other cool stuff,” according to the Nutella press release.
In celebration–and a bit of preparation–for the Nutella event, here are a few unique ways to eat the spread and some fun recipes:
Waffles and Nutella
It isn’t easy to take waffles and maple syrup as a breakfast to-go, but waffles and Nutella is! Try some quick waffles from the freezer aisle, take your pick, toast them in the morning and then spread Nutella on top. Make a waffle sandwich with the hazelnut spread in between and you have one delicious breakfast sandwich to-go!
Nutella Samosas
A samosa is a fried or baked, flaky pastry with any type of filling. Different recipes call for different dough, but essentially you’re looking for filo dough, which are paper-thin sheets of unleavened flour dough. You could use this pastry concept and fill the morsels with potatoes, spicy vegetables, fruit, chocolate, or mainly anything you can imagine that will hold inside the dough. This recipe from babble.com uses spring roll wrappers, available in the grocery store. You can buy the wrappers frozen, too. It’s pretty easy: You’ll need to cut the wrappers into squares, put a dollop of Nutella a little further from the center of the square, and then fold the corners over to make a triangle shape. Sliced fruit and Nutella
You may be reminiscing about your younger days when there was nap time and snack time, which may have included sliced fruit and peanut butter. Apples and peanut butter is still an all-time favorite for me, but how about a new twist? Try slicing your favorite type of apple and spreading some Nutella on it instead of peanut butter. You could even sprinkle chocolate chips or nuts on top of the Nutella for even more flavor. Not crazy about apples? How about bananas or strawberries? Give it a try for a satisfying, easy snack!
Nutella Cheesecake Brownies
You drooling yet, brownie lovers? This recipe looks absolutely delicious and isn’t an impossible feat, either. It’s a layer of brownie topped with a mixture of cream cheese, Nutella, sugar and eggs to make a cheesecake layer. If you love dense, moist chocolate brownies, this is probably the recipe for you. Babble.com gives you an ingredients list for the brownies to make from scratch, but you should be able to use your favorite brownie mix instead if you prefer. Here’s the link to the full recipe with detailed instructions: http://blogs.babble.com/family-kitchen/2010/11/04/nutella-cheesecake-brownies-three-words-you-should-most-definitely-eat/
There are hundreds of dishes you can make with Nutella, so if you’re up for it, get creative! Don’t forget the Nutella Breakfast Tour truck will be near the Student Union from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the spookiest day of the year, Oct. 31!
