Picture this: getting ready with a group of your girlfriends before a night out, hair dryers blowing, music blasting, running from room to room asking opinions on the perfect outfit. Over all the noise and chaos yelling to the next room, “Where should we go?”,“Well how much is cover?”, “What are the drink specials?”. This is the average pre-going out ritual that we have fallen into. UCF’s own, Tyler Salem has created a website to make going out a little bit easier called College Booze News. It catalogs all of the bars around UCF’s drink specials and covers for that night and the next night so you won’t have to waste your time searching for who has free drinks and till when. Ladies, if you haven’t heard of this site, your “knightlife” is about to become a lot easier!
Q: What exactly is College Booze News?
A: CollegeBoozeNews.com is a website that does a few things. First and most obviously, it is a source for students to view and compare drink specials and cover prices for all of the bars around campus. College Booze News is also turning into a website that students can go to for discounts/coupons to local bars and restaurants.
Q: What made you come up with the idea?
A: The original idea of displaying drink specials belonged to a friend of mine. She pointed out the lack of a source for this information; I did some research on it, and decided that a solution was in need.
Q: How did you come up with the name “Booze News”?
A: Again, I cannot take credit. The name was also the suggestion of a friend. It’s a great name that says exactly what we do; we provide news, about booze!
Q: Why do you feel that it was important for UCF students to have Booze News?
A: College kids don’t have much money. Most of the money we do have goes to necessities such as food, gas, and books, so we aren’t left with much to spend on entertainment. I felt it was important to provide a source for students to visit to see where their money will be best spent.
Q: Were you surprised that the idea hadn’t been taken yet?
A:We were not the first ones to do it, and we won’t be the last. We just do it better than everyone else.
Q: How did you decide to expand to not just include the local bars but restaurants also?
A: We want to become a place for student to go for bar/club information and savings as well as food/restaurant information and savings. Not all college students drink, but all of them eat.
Q: How many campuses have College Booze News?
A: As of right now, we have UCF, USF, UF, and FGCU live and running.
Q: Do you plan on expanding?
A: Exploding is a more appropriate term. We will be nationwide in a few weeks.
Q: What is your dream goal for College Booze News?
A: My goal is for CollegeBoozeNews.com to become a ‘must check’ site for all students before going out to eat or drink!
