Lacrosse. Ever heard of it? Well maybe your friend’s boyfriend in high school played it, but you really aren’t sure.

For those of you who are lacrosse-deprived, here are a few quick stats:

  1. UCF has men’s and women’s club teams
  2. The season starts in the spring
  3. It’s a fun contact sport to watch

With that said and done, HC sat down to talk to the President, Brittany Worrell, and Vice President Katie Biggers, of our women’s lacrosse team.

Both girls are seniors at UCF and have little time during lacrosse season. As President, Brittany is responsible for scheduling games, reserving field space and making sure things run smoothly.

“I also fill out different reports and paperwork to keep us in good standings with the Sport Club Council,” she said.

Katie has a different view on things as Vice President. Not only does she help with the scheduling, but also she coordinates traveling and team uniforms.

One of the hardest things with a club team is to keep the girls motivated. Because the players are not being paid to play, they are completely fueled by love for the sport.

“We try to make sure that practices vary from day to day and make sure the girls know that our competition is out there practicing just as hard or harder,” Katie says. “They don’t want to be embarrassed and lose when they travel across the nation.”

Team bonding generally occurs during the fall. I’ll give you a hint… it’s during UCF’s favorite time… Football season! Katie and Brittany both agree nothing beats the fun of a UCF football game.

When they aren’t on the field, both girls enjoy shopping and just relaxing. The girls don’t have much free time running a Top 20 lacrosse team.

Catch the girls this Friday as their season kicks off against the University of Georgia. For more information, or if you’re interested in playing, visit: www.laxknights.com
