Join the Walk To End Alzheimer’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

In our college-minded worlds, we have plenty of things to worry about, from student loans to which major to declare and everything in between. Thankfully, Alzheimer’s disease is not one of them. This illness is the most common form of dementia. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, one in eight adults in America are living with this disease, which comes to an astonishing 5.4 million Americans. Fortunately for us collegiettes™, this disease is something we do not need to worry about for years to come. Sadly, a majority of us are indirectly affected by it, may it be from our grandparents or a family friend. Do we wait for this inevitable disease to catch up to us or do we do something about it now?

I challenge you, UCF. Get involved now; help find the cure now. The fight to end Alzheimer’s starts with you.

The Alzheimer’s Association of Central and North Florida is hosting its annual Walk To End Alzheimer’s in our beloved city of Orlando on October 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. around Lake Eola Park. This event is held annually in over 600 communities nationwide. The Alzheimer’s Association website describes this fundraising walk as “an opportunity to call on participants of all ages and abilities to help reclaim the future for millions.” Your participation will not only help raise money for research to find a cure to this detrimental disease, but also raise awareness in your community about the sixth leading cause of death in America, Alzheimer’s disease.
