Spoiler warning for Invincible ahead. Reader discretion is advised.
The Amazon Prime Video sensation Invincible, an adult-animated superhero show, has gained immense online fame since the release of its first season in March 2021. The show follows Mark Grayson, the teenage son of Omni Man, an alien and the most powerful superhero on Earth. Omni Man, under the secret identity of Nolan Grayson, acts as a superhero on Earth in the first season after travelling there from the planet Viltrum, making Mark a half-human, half-alien hybrid. The show follows him as he navigates gaining superpowers, relationships, and countless challenges, becoming a superhero by the name Invincible.
Season 4 recap
Season four of Invincible premiered on March 18 of this year. Excited fans had a long wait for its release since the end of season three in early 2025. So far, only seven episodes of season four have been released, the finale set to drop on April 22.
Season four focuses far more on the Viltrumites than we have seen before, setting up a grand war. As tensions rage in space and Mark continues dealing with his crushing guilt from the events of season three, the show takes on the storyline of the Viltrumite War from the comics. I was very surprised to see the return of Conquest, even though it was heavily hinted at in season three when Mark goes to visit his body to ensure his demise. I felt that it would be unrealistic to bring him back solely due to the length of their battle and how difficult it was to get rid of him.
But at least he was not brought back as the main antagonist, which ended up being Grand Regent Thragg of the Viltrumite Empire. To me, it felt repetitive that he escaped, especially so soon in season four after being nearly impossible to defeat, allowing for Eve’s untapped powers to make an entrance. This did, however, contribute to the pivot to the Viltrumite War storyline.
Season 5 Theories
Luckily for fans, season five of Invincible has already been announced, so audiences have some theories. It is rumored that this season will follow Dinosaurus, also known as Dr. David Anders, a minor antagonist in season four, as he carries out his plan for mass destruction for the greater good. This storyline from the comics would make the most sense moving forward. Ideally, this will also include the triggered storyline of Mark losing his powers, creating an exciting, fresh situation the hero has yet to deal with. After the virus that caused it was introduced in season three, it would make sense for it to return in season five, and I believe it will be a major plot point.
waiting for invincible 5
All we can do now is anxiously await the final episode to find out how the Viltrumite War pans out and where Mark and Eve will find themselves by the end of this season. After that, we will once again wait patiently for season five and the continuation of this incredible series, because, as the writers hinted at in season 2, animation takes time!
