How Strange Bird Beauty Changed the Skincare Game

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Lately, there have been a lot of new beauty brands breaking into the sphere. In a world of Glossier, Innisfree, Sephora and more, there is a lot to consider for what is best for your skin. Let me introduce: Strange Bird Beauty. Strange Bird Beauty is a vegan skin care brand owned by a Chinese American woman. Tina Rudolf wanted to find a skin care brand that took care of people’s mental spaces while also taking care of their skin. Thus, Strange Bird Beauty was born. It was inspired by her grandmother and mother who prided themselves on different Chinese techniques to take care of their skin. Strange Bird Beauty combines Chinese beauty secrets and self-care.

I really have to admit that Strange Bird Beauty has truly helped both my skin and my mental health. When I received my package in the mail, not only did it come it a cute box, but it also came with stickers and a mental health sticker checker. Essentially, it was a little slip that could be attached to any smooth surface and came with a dry erase marker. It asked questions such as “How am I feeling today?” and “What do I want to release?” This great since it makes my skin care routine into a self-care routine. It also reminds me that skin care doesn’t have to be hard or shameful. It can be releasing and wonderful.

But why are they so important and what are they really? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s the 101. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are Antioxidants? Antioxidants are substances that can prevent or slow damage to cells caused by free radicals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are Free Radicals? Free radicals are waste substances produced by cells as the body processes food and reacts to the environment. If the body cannot process and remove free radicals efficiently, oxidative stress can result. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What is Oxidative Stress? Oxidative stress can cause premature signs of aging, uneven skin tone and texture, and even break down the essential proteins that support the skin, causing sagging. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Antioxidants are said to help neutralize free radicals in our bodies, and this is thought to boost overall health. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Types of Antioxidants: vitamin A vitamin C vitamin E beta-carotene lycopene lutein selenium manganese zeaxanthin ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All of our products contain our signature G Team–which is an antioxidant force to be reckoned with. Our products essentially flood your skin with antioxidants . . . protecting, preventing, hydrating, and nourishing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This bird’s got your back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ – Tina

Beyond that the products have been wonderful, I want to emphasize that all of the products are naturally sourced, which is a bonus as my skin can be sensitive. I received the Inner Clarity Cleanser and samples of the Inner Balance Serum and Inner Light Moisturizer. The Inner Clarity Cleanser is a three-in-one cleanser that has Kaolin Clay, Sweet Almond Oil and Jojoba Oil. It also has their “signature G team” consisting of Ginger, Ginseng and Goji Berry. I like to use it as an exfoliator and cleanser every few days. It works really great and you can really feel it cleansing your skin. However, my favorite thing is after I use it my skin feels so refreshed and literally looks like it’s glowing. As for the other products, I especially like the Inner Balance Serum. When using it with the cleanser, it adds an extra layer of glow to my skin.

I highly recommend adding Strange Bird Beauty to anyone’s skincare routine! Get that glow!
