How to Have the Perfect Spring Break Cruise Next Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

In the past two years I’ve gone on a cruise with 12+ of my best friends, and two years in a row I’ve had the most amazing Spring Break of anyone I know.  On your first cruise you go on you’ll follow what your friends tell you, and the second cruise you start to think up some ideas of your own.  I want to pass these ideas down to you, so that your Spring Break cruise 2012 can be the most amazing one yet.

Packing

-I’m sure you ladies have this covered for the most part, so I’ll mention some things you might forget.
Yes the Michael Kors watch and Louis Vuitton glasses are sexy, but if they get broken or lost will it ruin your whole trip.  Might be better to leave them safe and sound back at home.  Wise decisions are rarely made while drunk.
– Go to Walmart and get a steel 8 oz flask.  You can thank me for not having to run back to your room every 10 minutes for drinks.
– Water proof camera.  I’ve seen too many cameras fall into the ocean and not make it.
– Video camera… but you may not want evidence.
– Boom box.  Also recommended to be waterproof, otherwise it’ll break by day 3.  Hot tubs are best with your own tunes.
– Matching shirts.  Yes it’s corny, yes people might hate, but there is no better way to be known on the cruise.  Plus it gives guys an easy reason to come talk to you.

Roommates

– Make sure none of your roommates snore.  This just sucks.  There is almost always one snorer in the room, so try to avoid that sleeping hazard.
– Similar mentalities.  You want roommates who are like you.  If you’re promiscuous, you want your flirty girlfriends.  If you throw back tequila shots like nobody’s business, don’t bring sober Sally.  And if you’re straight edge Sammy, bring the rest of the girls from your Church Group, rather than your Sorority girls.

Money tricks and Alcohol tips

– Soda pass.  (On Norwegian it’s $50 for all 7 days for unlimited soda.  You also get a cup that’s perfect for mixing drinks in.  It helps you drink your own alcohol rather than the ships overpriced fruity drinks.)
– When ordering drinks: the recommended is the Long Island.  Few drinks will get you drunker quicker, than the trusty Long Island.
– When ordering shots: make friends with a FEW bartenders.  Find out the cheap shots, and order them. Your buddy bartender will soon be making better $3 shots, than the $10 shots they give out. I’ve gotten numerous “free shots” because I was so nice waiting for the others to be made.  Also remember guys have money to blow, so find a sugar daddy to get you drinks, just get away before he creeps too much.
– Ask that they clean out your mini fridge.  You’ve now gotten rid of the temptation of a $8 grey goose shot, or $5 drunken pretzels, and freed up precious fridge space.
– Like tequila shots or shots in general?  Try asking for orange slices and sugar packets.  Use fake sugar if getting fat scares you.  Take them just like you would salt and lime.. a little sugar on the hand, shot, and bite the orange.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Mentality

– You’re on vacation!  Smile and say hi to everybody.  If most of the employees don’t like you by the end of the cruise, you’re not being nice enough.  Don’t be so quick to turn someone down, instead chat it up with everybody.
– Participate!  Yes the games and activities might seem corny but there is no quicker way to get known on the ship.  I participated in the Bachelorette (I won ;) ) and was referred to as contestant #3 for the next 72 hours.  A comedian brought my friend on stage after naming him Cupcake, and he proceeded to be well known around the cruise ship.
– Walk up to guys!  If you get turned down…on to the next one.  I’ve seen a few so so girls hook up with much better looking men because they were willing to be aggressive.
– Dance! This should be a given, but I can’t remember having much better times than doing the Dougie with 30 people on the cruise.

Random Tips

– Eat some breakfast!  I know you don’t want to gain weight on Spring Break and those buffets are tempting.  Eating breakfast jump starts your metabolism so your body starts burning weight.
– Big groups are fun.  You’ll likely split off and do your own thing, but it’s still nice to always have friends to do something with.
– Have guys teach you how to gamble.  Most girls are afraid of gambling, but have a great time once they know the rules.
