How to Enjoy Halloween as a Scaredy-cat

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Halloween is a holiday filled with candy, costumes, pumpkins and scary movies. For those that are into horror, it’s their time to shine. However, for “scaredy-cats,” it’s when we tend to hide away and avoid Halloween-themed events in the fear of being jumped at or chased with a pretend chainsaw. But there’s hope, because with these four ideas on how to spend Halloween—or just the spooky season—the jumpiest of the jumpy can be festive.

1. Throw an Instagrammable Halloween Party

A spooky photo booth. Pinterest worthy snacks. Pop-culture related costumes. What do these all have in common? They are the basis of a non-scary Halloween party that is Instagram ready. Inviting your friends or family over for a non-scary party allows you to still partake in Halloween festivities without causing you any trauma or stress from guys with chainsaws or dementor look-a-likes.

2. Have a Non-Horror Movie Night

If you aren’t into horror movies, films like Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown give you the spooky and festive feeling without making you pee your pants. Having your girl gang over and cozying up to watch a throwback movie in Halloween socks and cute pajamas is probably the cutest and least scary way to enjoy the night.

3. Baking and Crafts

Halloween may be marked by the last day in October, but it truly isn’t this holiday until Pillsbury releases their pumpkin and ghost-themed cookies. The sugary goodness is not only delicious and celebratory but effortless and fun to make too.

Another DIY activity to host is a classic pumpkin carving. Taking adorable photos at a pumpkin patch then coming home to carve and decorate them into jack-o-lanterns is a very safe way to celebrate Halloween.

4. Spend It With Family and Pets

Dachshunds as hot dogs? Babies as pumpkins? If there were a scale for cuteness, these two costumes would be off the charts.

If none of the previous three options appeal to you or correspond with your schedule, spend this holiday with friends and family or your pet.

Whatever your plans are for this Halloween night, these ideas are perfect to celebrate the spooky and autumnal season while still avoiding the scares.
