The sunshine state of Florida is a great place to live, but Floridians, unfortunately, do not get to experience traditional seasons like the rest of the world. The leaves in Florida do not change colors like most places and the temperature drops only to a mere 50-60 degrees. Typically, the average temperature is around the high 80s for almost 90 percent of the year, which is a bummer if you want to participate in most fashion trends. When the temperature is that unbearable, you either want to stay inside blasting the a/c or if you have to go outside, you want to wear as little clothing as possible.

We are only a few days into the best season of the year, Autumn, and with temperatures in the 90s, it’s hard to transition into the fall fashion season. Pumpkin spice flavored everything has finally arrived at all of your favorite coffee shops and grocery stores and soon it will be time to hit the pumpkin patches. When it comes to choosing which items to wear for fall, dark colors like emerald green, burgundy and shades of brown are perfect for the season. Lightweight materials such as silk and suede are perfect if you live in a warmer climate, like Florida. Here are some fashion essentials to add to your fall collection that won’t make you break a sweat.

Dashing Dresses

Dresses are perfect year-round because of their lightweight material and they’re effortless to throw on. For the fall season, try picking up a few dresses that are a variety of patterns, lengths and of course, darker colors. Short, t-shirt dresses are super cute for running errands or hanging out with friends. Midi dresses are great for a day-to-night look because they’re not quite long enough to be a maxi dress, but too long to be considered a mini dress. Striped midi dresses are not only flattering but hella cute. Maxi dresses are perfect for going out to brunch and hanging with the girls. Throwing on a dress is so simple but so elegant and you’re definitely going to look stylish. The best part about dresses is that you can dress them up or down with funky accessories and shoes.

Fuzzy Flannels

My all time favorite piece of clothing for fall would have to be flannels. I personally like buying flannels that are two-three sizes too big because I love the trendy oversized look. Flannels are perfect for chucking on over tees, tanks and even dresses, or you could wear them by themselves with mom jeans, high-waisted shorts or your trusty black leggings. In my opinion, you should pick up at least one new flannel every year to add to your collection. There are so many different levels of thickness, colors and patterns to choose from; the options are endless! For the fall time, try picking up a flannel that incorporates dark, fall colors like burnt oranges, mustard yellows and hunter greens. Since Florida doesn’t’t really get to participate in the autumn season, cropped flannels are perfect for the warmer temperatures while still being fall-festive.

Suede Skirts

One of the hottest trends this year has to be suede skirts! Suede is so soft and comfortable and comes in a wide variety of clothing items like tops, dresses and skirts. Suede skirts are very trendy right now and are perfect for the fall season because of their unique design. Blush, suede button-down skirts with a basic bodysuit or top is such a cute outfit and perfect for the not-so-cold fall season. Skirts are so simple and girly and look great with almost anything! Also, solid colored suede skirts look great with funky tops if you are looking to add some spice to your wardrobe, or you could even pick up a skirt that’s a two-tone pattern and pair it with a basic top. When the temperature eventually drops, you can add over-the-knee boots to your skirt outfit for a chic look.

Off-The-Shoulder and Cold-Shoulder

It’s way too hot to wear chunky sweaters, so a great alternative is an off-the-shoulder or cold shoulder top. Your shoulders will be showing in these tops, which allows for the breezy air to flow onto your skin. When the temperature finally drops, these shirts will be great for layering your favorite flannel or faux-leather jacket. Off-the-shoulder dresses are also very trendy this season and are lightweight enough to keep you cool. Off-the-shoulder tops with funky sleeves like wide-bell sleeves are in style and look like you put effort into your outfit without effort. I like pairing dainty jewelry with off-the-shoulder tops and high-waisted distressed jeans. They’re great for layering no matter what the forecast looks like. Peep-toe ankle booties and block-heeled sandals look great with these designs.

The cold shoulder look is fairly new but is still hella trendy. A cold shoulder top is essentially a normal sleeved top minus the fact that there are slight holes peeking through your shoulders. Check out long sleeve, cold shoulder tops which will keep you warm and toasty while also looking very stylish. Cold shoulder tops come in a wide variety of styles and my personal favorite is one with elaborate ties and a flow-y material.

Fall might have just arrived, but you still have time to stock up on all of your fall fashion essentials. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and start your own trends this season.  Have a great fall season, my fellow fashionistas!
