Fairy Tales Become Reality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

There is nothing like blowing off the dust from your favorite Disney VHS and singing along to all of those catchy songs or reading those fairy tales. Watching these classics bring back so many great memories, and lately our favorite fairy tales are coming to life. Recently, there have been so many shows and movies that are taking the most memorable characters and creating a new and improved story. These plots allow older generations to enjoy a different side to their favorite tales. Have you ever wondered what the world would be like if Mulan, Sleeping Beauty and Frankenstein all lived together? Well, now you can actually tap into their lives with some of the shows and movies that are out. If you are into fairy tales, here are some shows and movies that are a must see:

  1. Once Upon a Time: Once Upon a Time is about a young lady who ventures off to Storybrooke, Maine to find her son who believes that everyone in the town is a fairy tale character from a book. This show, which is one of my favorites, shows us how all of these characters would interact if they all really lived in a land together. Some of the characters that are in this show are Snow White, Mulan, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and the evil Rumpelstitskin. This show gives us a different view to some of our favorite characters. Watch Once Upon a Time on ABC at 8 p.m. on Sundays.
  1. Grimm: Grimm is a show on NBC that deals with the eerie plot that is based off of the Grimm fairy tales. The story is about a cop that realizes he is descended from a line of “Grimms.” Throughout the episodes we see the main characters battle evil creatures in order to keep balance between the human race and the mythical world. There are characters called Grimms, Reapers, Blutbaden and other creatures that come from the Grimm tales. To watch Grimm, watch NBC Fridays at 9 p.m.
  1. Snow White and the Huntsman: Who doesn’t love Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart? Put Twilight aside and watch Kristen Stewart transform into Snow White. This movie is about Snow White, but mainly focuses on the darker story. There is no singing, no dwarfs and no true love story, but allows us to see the delicate Snow White that we know and love be a strong and independent woman who kills and fights for her life. This movie is something every princess lover has to see.
  1. Red Riding Hood: Everyone is familiar with one of the most popular fairy tales, Little Red Riding Hood, but now we get to see this story come to life. This movie takes place in a village that is being taunted by a wolf. This is definitely not the story we know, since we end up finding out who the wolf actually is, and let me tell you, it is not someone who you’d expect. There is a lot of action, a twisted plot and our favorite fairy tale characters. Take a trip to the village to find out who the big bad wolf really is.
