Dear You,
Well first of all, congratulations! You’ve survived this far and now it’s off from the Pee Wee’s to Little League. I know how scared you are, how bad you want to fit in, and how much you want to be “cool.” I wish you knew how cool you already are and wouldn’t waste so much time trying to be a person you aren’t. Middle school is the time you’re supposed to find out who you are and right now you are already so much like the person you’re meant to be, even if you don’t necessarily see it.
I promise you that you aren’t as much of a freak as you think just because you’re not into makeup and dressing up like the other girls. Your graphic tees & high tops are absolutely out of this world! It’s not weird that you love to read and enjoy science class when everyone else doesn’t, please continue to be smart and love school. Don’t try to give yourself eraser burns with those other kids in gym class because they’ll still have those scars right now and you’ll be glad that you didn’t even try (even though you’ll be called a square for not doing it). Fitting in isn’t the goal young one, you’ve gotta stay true to yourself.
It isn’t the end of the world. Even though it may seem like everything is a big deal, it’s not. Listen to mom when she says to get some sleep or when she says to clean your room. Be nicer to your sister, she’s just trying to figure all of this out like you. Don’t forget to write in your journal as much as you can, even though everybody says that “diaries are stupid.” Enjoy coming home to the classic Disney Channel shows because they may just be TV shows now, but they help you grow up to be one great kid.
Middle school is just the beginning of something wonderful and the ultimate start of something new. Don’t wish you were older not even for one second because once you are, you’ll want to take it back. You’re a kid and even though the world is a bit of a strange place for you right now, it’ll get better soon. Have fun, wash your face, tell him you like him, and remember…YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
