Dear Best Friend,

It’s the holiday season, and it’s yet another year we are not together. Though we’ve only known each other for a short amount of time, I’ve never connected to another human being as much as I connected with you. Nearly 3,000 miles separate us and though that distance always feels far, it feels a bit further this time of year. The holidays are the time of year you’re supposed to be with the ones you love; yet due to having a college student’s budget and absolutely no free time, neither of us can afford to fly out and visit. I hope that after college it’ll be easier to just hop on a plane and visit during the holidays, but I know that’ll be unlikely.

Last year’s holiday season was not nearly as bad as I had just seen you nearly a month prior. This year it’s been over a year—and quite frankly I feel like I’m going insane missing my best friend. We’ve never even had a holiday together; to sit around and watch it snow, to drink hot chocolate or even just to exchange gifts with one another while talking loudly about who-knows-what and laughing even louder. I hope that one day we get to experience that, and I hope that day is in the near future.

The only easy part of being this far apart this holiday is knowing that once the New Year swings around, I’ll be traveling 3,000 miles to visit you in just a matter of months. I cannot wait to be bawling my eyes out with pure joy as you walk down the aisle with the love of your life, and I cannot wait to see you look absolutely beautiful—as you most definitely will.

I truly hope you have the most incredible holiday season best friend, one full of laughter and joy and whatever else you could possibly dream of. I love you and I miss you.

Happy Holidays.
