Think about the things you have wanted to do; running a 5k marathon, creating a blog, taking up photography. The list is probably endless. If you made a list, which side would be longer? Bullet points filled with things you want to try or a decent amount of things checked off? This week I challenge you to look fear in the face and smile. I challenge you to stop making excuses. I challenge you to take action. I challenge you to go after something you have always wanted to do.
“I have always wanted to dive the Great Barrier Reefs. I’m from Key West and started diving when I was a little kid. The closest I have ever been to accomplishing this dive would be when I went to Aruba this summer. The water was very beautiful and the reefs comparable to the Great Barrier Reef. The experience was amazing and makes me want to dive in Australia even more!”- Alexandra Beeman
The best way I can think of building confidence is through fulfilling personal goals. It does not have to be anything monumental. It is not about what you choose to do, but how it makes you feel afterword. Successfully, baking chocolate chip cookies without letting them become crispy is something I have had to work up too. The feeling of pride I got afterwards was the same as any moment I accomplished something. The same thing goes for feeling good about simply trying. Whatever you choose to do should be fun and make you feel carefree!
“I have been able to fulfill my desire in learning to play the guitar. I always wanted to learn but became more interested when I had the opportunity to take it in high school. It made me feel more accomplished and creative. It has made me a more courageous person and I am more determined to explore other instruments to expand my level of creativity.” – Aceica Anderson
It’s what you have always longed to do but when the opportunity comes, it is the last thing you want to do. Like Aceica, completing your task will allow you to learn something about yourself. You will see aspects of yourself that have been dormant, suddenly come alive. Goals that I have been able to accomplish made me realize how determined I am. Seeing these qualities come up time and time again has shown me that I do not give up easily.
A line from A Cinderella story has led me to believe that fear is a strong indicator of something worthwhile. If you are afraid to fail, simply trying will make you feel on top of the world! “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”
