Artist Marc E. Bassy on His Upcoming Music Career

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Musical artist Marc E. Bassy has been on tour for weeks now opening for G-eazy. In this interview, he speaks of his musical career and what he hopes to accomplish in the future.

HerCampus UCF (HCUCF): So you were handpicked by Questlove to perform at annual Roots Picnic this past summer. What was that like?

Marc E. Bassy (MEB): That was an awesome experience. Some of my favorite artists were playing like The Weeknd. It was just cool to be there and be part of it. It was the first festival I’d ever played at too. I couldn’t really ask for much more.

HCUCF: So I know you’ve recently penned songs for huge artists like Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, and 2 Chainz. What is one artist that you haven’t worked with yet that you’d like to?

MEB: I would like to work with Kanye West and this girl named Kimbre that I really like. Those two definitely come to mind.

HCUCF: you’ve been on the road for weeks now with A$AP Ferg and G-Eazy. Which city has been your favorite tour stop?

MEB: New York City is always a crazy experience. DMX came out and was in our dressing room just playing my guitar. That was a highlight. Denver and Minesota were also really crazy.

HCUCF: Your recent EP East Hollywood received a lot of attention. When can we expect more new music from you?

MEB: I’m doing this Bassy Music Thursday, so I’m putting a new song out every Thursday. We have a little studio set up on the bus, and I have been working on music there. There is an official single that is coming out on my label in April. In 2016 my debut ablum, Groovy People, will be out.

HCUCF: What made you decide to pursue a solo career?

MEB: I believe in my songs, and a lot of times other artists would tell me I should just do it. Sometimes people are good at singing and sometimes people have a voice. I believe that I have a voice, and sometimes you’ve just got to trust yourself and go for it.

HCUCF: What message would you give to college students with a passion for music?

MEB: Do music as much as you can. If you take music seriously and you have a passion for it, you just need to wake up and do it everyday. Spend all day doing it, and whatever happens, happens. Being a musician means you’re a musican. That means you play everyday and you practice, you write, you sing, whatever it might be. It’s like a lifestyle. It’s not like a goal. It’s just something that you do everyday.

HCUCF: What’s your favorite form of social media?

MEB: Instagram. I like Snapchat too, but I like to open everyone’s snaps and I can’t always reply to all of them. But send me snaps at ‘Markybassy.’
