There aren’t many authors that can safely say they’ve been writing New York Times bestsellers for over 2 decades. Janet Evanovich, however has that title safely under her belt and is continuing her legacy. The Heist is the first of a new series written by her and Lee Goldberg. I can safely say that after reading over 20 books written by her, this is one of the best yet. This seasoned author hasn’t lost her touch quite yet. And you can’t forget Lee Goldberg. He isn’t quite lacking the resume department either. He wrote 8 seasons of the hit tv show Monk and knows his way around the FBI.

Katie O’Hare is the type of woman I envy. Not only is she attractive and manages to keep a size 0 body despite her well balanced diet of Oreos and pizza, but she also is independent and capable of taking care of herself. She is the epitome of what I’d like to grow up to be. Once you combine her sass with the ultimate bad boy, Nick Fox, a new dream team was born.

Nick Fox is a former con man who lives up to his name. He has evaded capture for many years mainly from the one and only Katie O’Hare herself. He’s a world renown thief and the harder the robbery, the happier he is. But when he manages to become caught in Kate’s trap, he worms his way out of prison by teaming with her and the FBI. Together they set off to catch criminals combining Kate’s FBI skills with Nick’s street knowledge. She may be FBI but some of the things Nick has planned lie in the grey zone of legal.

This book sends the duo around the world, collecting a rag tag team of experts in order to pull off the biggest heist yet: taking down an investment banker who is corrupt and stole millions from his clients before going into hiding. They not only have to get the money back but also manage to do it without getting caught. If they do get caught, the FBI won’t have their backs and off to jail they’ll go.

With summer coming up and more time to spend lounging by the pool, this is a quick fun read with enjoyable characters and funny page turners. If you’re looking for a cry yourself to sleep novel then this isn’t the book for you. But it is the perfect novel to read while laying by the pool with a drink in your hand. I’d rate this book a solid 4 stars. This isn’t a reread until the pages fall out type of book but its an entertaining book with enjoyable characters and a fast moving plot. Anyone who’s read her Stephanie Plum series can testify that this isn’t quite at that level but I did finish the book already eyeing the sequel.
