50 Shades of Pink

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

I think it was Audrey Hepburn who proudly said, “I believe in pink!” which in my opinion should be one of every girl’s fashion philosophies. No matter how tough or tomboyish you think you are, there is always room to wear some pink. This spring we saw many tones of pink grace the runway, from neons to pastels, and as you can see this week’s fashionista rocks both! All she’s missing is that to-die-for Givenchy bubblegum pink leather bag we all fell in love with on the runway… But seriously, even some of the most famous tomboys of our generation, like Angelina Jolie and Kristen Stewart (strong supporters of black and dark colors) have been spotted showing off their girly side with a pink ensemble every now and again. For all of you non-believers of the respected color pink, I’d start off by wearing one pink accessory with an outfit, such as a hot pink beanie when you feel like scrubbing it or a big, tickle-me-pink bow in your hair when you go out.

I found Alli Muniz in one of my classes on the Rosen College campus this week and immediately obsessed over her color palette and accessorized style. The pale shoes with the pastel cardigan and pops of magenta in the skirt make a perfect combo. Like I said last week: being too matchy-matchy can be boring, but Alli’s outfit is exciting because she integrates different shades of the same color. Also, notice that the pencil skirt she wears has a print covered in subtle, neon giraffes and she then pairs it with a simple, white tank to create balance. The skirt catches your attention, yet doesn’t overwhelm the outfit.

Lastly, I have to focus on her metallic headband. It may not be pinkalicious, but it is a prominent trend in the current fashion world. Sleek metal necklaces, linked chains, and shiny shades were huge this season. In Alli’s case, her headband acts as a delicate touch to her necklace and watch. Try wearing a headband with crystals, studs, or stones to add an edgy flare to your outfit! What I love about metal is that it has the illusion of looking classic and futuristic at the same time; you really can’t go wrong by incorporating it into your personal style. So come on, fashionistas… push the pedal to the metal!
