Anyone else still recovering from turkey sleep syndrome? Having a short break immediately before finals week puts us at a disadvantage and getting back into our normal routine is key to making it out alive.
Write a to-do list.
Write down small tasks that lead up to the main directive you have to complete. Even if you already know what you have to accomplish this week, writing everything down will create an urgency that will motivate you to stay on task.
Go to sleep at a reasonable time.
A solid eight hours of sleep will benefit your body, physically and mentally. Sleeping will make you feel refreshed which will lead to being productive.
Eat healthy.
Getting back into your normal routine will be difficult if you feed yourself junk food. Have fruits, peanut butter or nuts on hand when you start to crave. This will give you an extra boost when your focus begins to wane.
Actually start what you have to do.
I am the queen at avoiding homework then when I actually start, it’s not that difficult for me to finish. Your brain psyches itself out to avoid taking action but actually doing the task turns out to be manageable. By starting, you’re closer to moving on to something else you would rather do. Â
Be Consistent.Â
Stay true to the normal routine you have already established. If you usually study at a different location, do not decide to study in your room out of laziness. Avoid trying something new, like drinking coffee to stay awake if your system is not used to caffeine. Â Your body will recognize what is normal and adapt to that quickly, rather than learning new habits.
