Remember when you were little and you were excited at the thought of becoming an adult? You would think of all the possibilities, like not having your parents tell you what to do, eating all of the sweets in the world, and just being free. Most of us couldn’t wait to grow up and experience all of the benefits that we thought came with adulthood—out with the toys and in with the towering heels!

As most of us have gotten older, however, we started to fear growing up. Seeing the struggles that our parents go through, hearing about our peers’ mistakes, and even constantly consuming news and staying up to date on the state of the world can make anyone apprehensive about adulthood. Even with the privileges that we could gain, it’s hard to keep our heads up and have something to look forward to.

Despite these downsides, there are numerous positive things about getting older, especially when you approach your twenties. Seen as a decade of fun and self-discovery, taking it all in can become a memorable experience. The possibilities are more endless than you may think.

Gaining Rights and Respect

There are many privileges that you can gain in your twenties, with some of the more convenient ones being an adult license and the ability to rent a car. While you’ll still be considered young by many people, you’ll at least be respected as an adult navigating the world. Who said that you’ll gain everything at only eighteen?

Fun Birthday Themes

From Taylor Swift’s “22,” to “What’s funnier than 24? 25!,” from Spongebob Squarepants, your birthday parties in this decade could have fun themes. With Gen Z’s obscure sense of humor, everyone will be willing to join in on the fun.

More Choices

Whether you want to travel and be a free spirit, or start settling into your career, the sky is the limit. Right and wrong answers don’t exist when it comes to what you want to pursue or achieve. There are an unlimited amount of roads and pathways, and the only person who’s in charge of picking which one to take is you.

Less Drama

With everyone focused on their goals and looking to improve themselves, you will see a massive decrease in petty drama and disagreements compared to the long days of middle and high school. Workplace drama is a thing, however, referring to the third benefit above, you have the choice to pick a job with a cooperative atmosphere. Conflicts are more resolvable than you think in your twenties.

Finding Yourself

Finally, the most important aspect of being in your twenties is learning who you are as a person. Being out in the real world for the first time on your own will make you realize a lot about yourself. You will find new hobbies, discard old ones, meet new people, and discover the opportunities that your environment has to offer. You could be a completely different person ten years from now, which may seem strange at first, but it can be an intriguing adventure to follow. The positive points above only help contribute to this final, significant one.

Amazon

The world may seem daunting at times, especially as we get older. To say that everything will be easygoing and simple would be a lie. However, to claim that everything only goes downhill from here would also be false. In the dark clouds above, there are silver linings to be found, and in your twenties, you can potentially find yourself tangled up in the good, shining as bright as your future.
